I saw The Wrestler tonight, it is pretty cool. The Asbury Park Boardwalk is one of the greatest places I"ve ever been to and I get teary eyed thinking about it.

I never saw it, from what I heard it didn't appeal to me. I watched it for Rourke and Marisa Tomei the movie was pretty down to earth and as a child I was an overweight wrestling fan so it speaks to me on several levels.

It was alright, not something I'd see again though. I liked some of the "back stage" scenes they showed at the wrestling events, that was kind of cool to see all the wrestlers together just chilling, then "beating" eachother up later.

Lol, I didn't get any sentimental feelings over it, but I could see where your coming from. The hardcore match was pretty cool. I loved his reaction when they were going over what kind of things they were gonna do in the match, and the other guy was all like, "are you cool with staples...you know, like a staple gun" (or something along those lines).

Not sure what its official us release date is and if that affected it. I was able to get it digitally on itunes just recently (couldn't get it there as recent as November) but I saw somewhere that the cd is not going to be available until January, 2009.

Understandable. I didn't hear it til late in the year, but it was one of those albums that just "clicked" with me upon first listen. Solid album start-to-finish. If it weren't such a damn great year for punk rock it likely could've made #1 on my list.

I'm curious what in your mind constitutes as a "good" year end list.

I'd guess any of the following, unless I'm wrong:

- Diversity in music taste?
- More coverage of lesser known bands/releases over the more popular picks?
- Lists similar to your (each particular individual) personal musical taste?
- Any of the above?

Actually a little less diversity and a little more focus on punk music would be good...seems like there is that "High Fidelity" element of making the perfect mix tape...reviewers showcasing their eclectic tastes. I realize "punk" is a rather vague or open term and while I don't like to get into what constitutes punk...I'm pretty sure shit like the Counting Crows shouldn't be here. And yes, I would like to see more coverage of lesser known bands. Perhaps shorter lists with a little more focus would be more appropriate. Regardless, I guess it really doesn't matter much

if you do and you have one that plays the games, MYSTERY MANSION PINBALL. I've got 3/4ths of the games and none has kept my interest like that. Pinball is so complicated, like the rules, who ever knows the real rules for a specific pinball machine?

Problem is, I know as soon as I buy it, it's gonna be widely available through torrent sites... That's just how my life works. Plus, then I'd have one "officially bought" album, and a bunch of illegal ones. I have Monk-like OCD symptoms, I'd never be able to live with that. And I would buy games, but I don't actually have an iPod. Guess it's time to regift...

man...i need to get that new Rebs album. i somehow doubt it could top Keepsake of Luck but I'm still interested. When Life Gives You Lemons was pretty good but I didn't put any hip-hop in my list...and H2O was only honorable mention material for me, though it wasn't bad by any means.

I think I said this before but I liked the medieval feel of Swords, which apparently was just an artefact of the art and some of the more discernable lyrics on the record and the album title. Pretty sure I read an interview where whichever band member wrote the lyrics said that wasn't what the album was about at all. Dunno, I've never read the lyrics.

On "Fuck All Y'all"..it sounds about the same honestly but I didn't find it as memorable for whatever reason, probably having to do with the above

Again, it feels like I've said this before but on their myspace they have/had a track called "I Saw Mommy Fucking Santa Claus"..I thought it was hilarious and hoped they went with more songs like that on the album..but they didn't..the opening "track" is really fucking annoying too..

The Gaslight Anthem, to me, doesn't write good albums. They write really good singles, but they fall flat when they try to stretch it out over the length of an album. I'd probably think they were great if they released a 45 every two months and then compiled those Chuck Berry-style onto one CD, but in the mean time it's just a few great moments surrounded by a lot of forgettable ones.

Jelone you did a great job describing GNVFLA. I must have logged 2000 miles on my car the first month or two after it came out driving around and singing at the top of my lungs.

As for Stay Positive, I wish more of the songs had a bit more structure. The meandering is effective in the right amounts but sometimes you need a center to ground you and the song to your soul.

for Bob Mould I'd say try Workbook if you don't mind softer singer/songwriter stuff "See A Little Light" off of that is one of his best songs he has ever written.

Stuff that is more like his current output alternative/indie rock I always have trouble picking but if you like his Husker du/Sugar stuff his self-titled album is probably the best place to start. Workbook and Black Sheets of Rain are softer singer/songwriter and Modulate is electronic which isn't my cup of tea. If you like his self-titled, I'd say check out Body of Song and The District Line.

Alright, Ive read all the lists and one thing stands out. It was so funny to see almost everyone put The 59' sound in their top five but it was just gonna be way to predictable to give Gaslight the number 1 spot.
