Media: Animal Collective: "My Girls"

Animal Collective have posted a song from their upcoming album. The record is titled Merriweather Post Pavilion and is due out January 20, 2009. It is the follow-up to Strawberry Jam which was released in 2007.

strawberry jam didn't really do it for me- this sounds pretty cool. sounds like mice parade having sex with the shins

Since when was it cool in indie circles to be hippies again? What the fuck? I always considered them two distinct groups of sheltered, rich white kids who fetishized poverty. Their crossover disturbs me.

hm. you seem pretty hung up on labels there mattramone. i sure don't know any rich hippies... but i know alot of people who just dig innovative music that has no boundaries- myself included- and we listen to good music regardless of it's genre or fanbase. if you knew anything about the festival scene you'd know it's been happening slowly for some time now. bands like modest mouse, explosions in the sky, broken social scene, 'org-core favorites' the hold steady, built to spill etc etc don't seem to mind sharing the stage with hippie bands

judging by the amount and type of people foaming at the mouth to get the new LP (VINYL ONLY, PLZ) i can pretty much say fuck you to this band without hearing anything by them.

i actually don't. i think gaslight is catchy but innocuous at best, and highly overrated.

this album is actually really good. don't be put off by the hype/fanbase.

"Feels" is still their best. This album lacks the random outbursts of noise that they're known for. It's definitely safer/more Shins-like.

i love the album as well, but i was a little disappointed with the lack of the singer's random scream outbursts, a la peacebone, grass, etc...

People compare this to the shins, but I think it's more apt to compare both to the Beach Boys.

only ever listened to panda bear's person pitch but i loved it, and this sounds like that, but less exciting because i already listened to person pitch

I'd say its closer to Person Pitch than Strawberry Jam or Feels--which is good in my opinion.

brotherspot, my girls, and summertime clothes are really good and pretty accessible.

this band makes terrific background music.
