Fucked Up, Protest The Hero, Cancer Bats up for F-U Awards

On February 5th, 2009 Toronto punk radio program Punk-o-rama will host their annual F-U Awards. Hosts Barry Taylor and JD will be joined by Jason Mewes of (who plays Jay in Kevin Smith's View Askew universe of films) to host the event at Toronto's Sound Academy. The event will feature performances by Andrew WK, the Flatliners, Die Manniquin, the Artist Life, Kingdoms and the Expos. Nominees vying for rewards at the event include Fucked Up, Protest The Hero, Cancer Bats, the Creepshow and others. You can find more details and vote at fuawards.com.

The drummer could be a great guy, but Goldfinger fucking sucks. They opened for Bad Religion years ago and almost made me want to leave. Totally butchered an Operation Ivy song

No, I've seen them, they suck. I saw Sublime too, also hated them.

well i dont know what constitutes a good live band to you but ive seen goldfinger 3 times and they are a terrific live band. i never saw sublime but have many dvds and it seemed like alot of fun. just stick to your old emo shoegazing rubbish if thats what makes you happy.

Haven't seen Goldfinger since 96 or 97. I thought they were sloppy, not good sloppy either.

Sublime may have had an off day, but I'm not a fan of their style.

Music is subjective, I love tons of stuff you would probably hate

Strombo Show, dude. A lot of lame dialogue, but the music and guests are consistently good. Also, Ongoing History of New Music is probably the best thing on modern rock radio in the last 10 years.

I can't listen to the strobo show much. He jizzes over a new band every week. I recall when he talked about how MGMT were saviours of modern rock. He over does it constantly.

Yeah, as I said, I agree with regards to a lot of the dialogue, but I can handle that for a radio show that'll play anything from MGMT and The Stills to The Flats, The Artist Life, and Cheap Suits.

no way, i've always found loriann and josie dye both great radio hosts, asnd pretty damn hot..and alan cross and martin streek are legends. now, if only they had humble and fred back for their morning show, the world would be complete...sadly, some things can never be.

Even Barry Taylor annoys me sometimes. The only people who actually know what they're talking about musically on that station are JD, Bookie, and Alan Cross.

Gotta go Clerks too. Although Jason Lee's parts in Mallrats and Chasing Amy were always awesome.

Mallrats, followed super duper closely by Clerks. Mallrats was my first KS movie though and it's the one I've seen the most so I am partial to it. Plus it's got the Jason Lee factor.

I've yet to be really disappointed by anything that he's done, even Jersey Girl.

Minus the Strike Anywhere set, I thought it was pretty lame.

Hostage Life and Keepin'6 were only allowed to play two songs. The Flatliners got like what, four?

Not to mention the two other shitty bands that also played only two songs, and that no one actually takes the awards seriously.

Say what you will but this just proves that Canada has us, culturally speaking. Fucked Up, Cancer Bats and Protest The Hero? Plus, Alexisonfire is so huge there...like them or not (which I do like them, tremendously) they are a million times better than the shit that passes as popular music in the states. All we get is T.I., Avenged Sevenfold and Rhianna at our awards.
