Matador Records have announced their plans for 2009's Record Store Day. The event celebrates independent record stores on April 18th and the label has created some limited edition exclusives to encourage people to visit participating stores.
The exclusives include a split featuring Jay Reatard and Sonic Youth titled Hang Them All/No Garage, Pavement Live in Germany on LP and a unique split featuring Sonic Youth and Beck covering each other. Participating stores can be found here. Matador Records (19 comments)

I've never been to any of those participating in NYC. Generation should participate.

Jay Reatard and Sonic Youth will most certainly be awesome. 1+ Reply

The one cool record store in Fargo, ND that sells Matador (where else do I buy Jay Reatard?) has gotten the shaft on this deal. Fuck my life!

"Record store day" is so fucking stupid. It's a store, not some last refuge for humanity. Having a day to celebrate record stores is like a day celebrating walgreens. Anyone who disagrees with me is an idiot. Save your pennies, folks. 4+ Replies

Will each store get all three of these or will it be certain stores get certain ones? Either way Park Ave CDs rules.

i don't think my city has many ma and pa record stores. if they do, then i don't know about them. i don't adventure much outside of my area.

I'm going to get the Jay Reatard one and then key the other side to insure my turntable isn't defiled with the wanksterisms of Sonic Youth. 2+ Replies

Way to poor to participate. However sounds like community action support for something we all obviously love, music, literature, an alternative culture to the boring every day stuff you find at stores like Best Buy. Would be a rad idea if some of these independent shops had some in store performances, and free beer for all patrons. And it's in April anyone else up for some Anarchy?

I'm really stoked about how Matador is somehow releasing these records through STORES THAT HAVE BEEN CLOSED FOR MONTHS. | Features

The new POS sounds great so far. I think Audition might have the better individual songs, but he gets less distracted on the new record.
