End Sounds plan Minor Threat tribute with Rise Against, Gallows, Gorilla Biscuits, MxPx members

End Sounds is having their second annual Pre-SXSW Music Show/Party on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Red 7 in Austin, Texas with a one-time only all-star Minor Threat cover band. This year the event is sponsored by Punknews.org.

The label explained:

Similar to last year (where End Sounds had a one time only Black Flag tribute band called Nervous Breakdown (Video 1, Video 2), we're having a one time only Minor Threat cover band called Filler (e.g. the band's not playing any other shows together ever) featuring: Zach Blair (Rise Against, GWAR, Only Crime, Hagfish), Luke Abbey (Gorilla Biscuits, Warzone) Mike Herrera (MxPx, Tumbledown) and Rob Marchant (Riverboat Gamblers, Slowride, Saboteur) with vocals by Frank Carter (Gallows) Sam Ghanbar (Complete Control)

Damn. This is my first year living in Austin and SXSW has a seriously overwhelming line-up. I'm looking at the official schedule and over six days I could see Street Dogs, D4, The Queers, Teenage Bottlerocket, The Bronx (and El Mariachi Bronx), The Raveonettes, Darkest Hour, Riverboat Gamblers, Sage Francis, No Age, Circle Jerks, Echo and The Bunnymen, Devo, Priestess, H.R. Band, This Bike Is a Pipe Bomb, Fake Problems, TAAS, Ben Nichols, Lucero, Frank Turner, Dillinger Escape Plan, Bedouin Soundclash, Pelican, The Hold Steady, Cursive, Kylesa, The Cute Lepers, New York Dolls, Spinnerette, Westbound Train, Exene Cervneka and many more.
Of course I can't afford the damn $550 wrist band and have to work early all week. Goddamn this is really frustrating.

It's all about the Bouncing Sould, D4, Darkest Hour daytime show on Friday at Red7. That's gonna rule so hard! (work better give me the day off or I might have to call in sick).

Hey, do you know how the whole wrist band thing works? Can you still get into some of the official sxsw shows without a wristband?

Yes, if once the show has started and all of the badge (seniority over wrist bands) and wrist-band possessing persons have gone in (and the show is not at capacity), then those proletariat mofo's - like me - will be allowed into the show.

Yeah, i'm hittin up SxSW. i have a hotel room and a plane ticket. i didnt get a wristband or anything as a friend in San Antonio said you could just bar hop.

Any truth in that? or do you gotta play $500 for some bullshit "pass"?

I know they give access to badges and wristbands first and then it's first come first serve for the rest of us.

yeah, you don't need the wristband... alot of the small punk bars too don't really require them.... it's usually for the big corporate sponsored parties at Stubbs and The Austin Music Hall that you really need them for, but usually they have a bunch of overrated crap at those things, and some lame ass like Andrew WK introducing bands like The Hives and Vampire Weeked.

Then there is parties thrown by Mountain Dew and Alternative Press that are totally free... just make sure you get to the venue early because sometimes they won't let anymore people in if it reaches capacity

You missed it about 5 years ago when we had the Rock Against Bush thing at Emo's for SXSW and it had Against Me!, D4, Lawrence Arms, Alkaline Trio, David Cross, and NOFX....

then again it was waaaay better about 98 when Unsane, The Murder City Devils, L7, Supersuckers, and Neurosis all billed together at Stubb's BBQ, long before they had that huge green wall that blocks the view from Waller Creek. Damn it used to be so simple in Austin.....

oh yeah, wrist bands were 60 bux back then

I saw NOFX, AK3 and Jello in San Diego on that tour. That was awesome... but adding AM! and the Larries to that would have been pretty darn cool.

The show is not a SXSW event, so no badge or wristband is required. It's an all ages show as well.

This is why i have been lurking on this site for 5 or 6 years now. 100 coments about how punk or unpunk Tre Cool is and 30 about something as amazing as minor threat. Even if it is a cover band. Death to you!
