plus the Botch connection kind of gives them some clout.

I can see the comparison to early Jawbox, but they definitely have a huge Jesus Lizard influence. Give them another chance, check out Easter or Tail Swallower if you get the chance. You seem to have ridiculously similar musical tastes to mine so you might dig it.
