Brian: I know, we haven't done one of these in a while, but I finally got really inspired to post one up. Set Your Goals posted a bulletin on Friday night with some updates and casually recommended a friends' band. That band, Daylight, is pretty fucking good. Further proving Pennsylvania is absolutely killing it this last year or so (see Title Fight, Tiger's Jaw, Balance & Composure, etc. etc.), Daylight play the type of gruff but emotional punk rock with double-time licks that newer bands like Polar Bear Club and Transit are operating on full-scale. And they seem to do a damn good job of it. You can grab their five-song demo for free here, but if you're impatient, stream it at their MySpace page.

I would say Michigan is the state thats "killing it". Fireworks, The Swellers, We Are The Union, Cheap Girls, Hellmouth, Randy Thunderbird, Natural Disasters, Frank White, The A-Gang, Fuckin' Gnarly...just to name a few that are coming out of this state.

Thanks, but don't worry about it. My brother has had the demos since they came out. It's funny though, the band might kill you and destroy those if you knew they had them. They don't even like to talk about the fact that they exist. Fucking perfectionists. To be fair, the new stuff IS another level above that old stuff, but the old stuff is still good and nothing to be ashamed of.

Actually they sent them to me... but they were really embarassed about them and I had to practically beg for them.

"I'm Ready" is a friggin' great song... I think it's even deserving of a re-recording and a spot on the next album.

I didn't realized it until we moved from MI and had to drive back up a couple times. Kentucky and Ohio are two miserable states to drive through, especially one after the other. Plus the air just smells.

Those aren't even close to all the bands that are "killing it" here.
As a member of the local scene, I gotta say there are some seriously killer bands here in Michigan that are not getting the recognition they deserve.
I am very happy about the bands that have made it though. I've played with the Swellers and Cheap Girls, and both are some of the best groups of people you can meet. Great dudes, great bands.

I had the chance to see this guys last summer with Gaslight, but missed it. Gaslight was the third out of five bands that would play that evening. We left after Gaslight. Damn shame I missed the Tenement Kids :(

Fuck the first show sounded like ass. I mean, I was drunk as all hell, but I could still tell it sounded horrible. That was my fourth time seeing Prop and it was easily the worst they've sounded. Plus no Todd vocals = low fucking end.

i definitely don't hear the polar bear club thing there too much.

this just sounds like really good mid-90s hardcore/emo

i also love the fact that the drummers beard makes up for the lack of beards on the rest of the band. well done, man!

I thought the same thing when listening to the first song. Singer's voice sounds like Nothington; only on the first song though.

Again, not really. And I love Polar Bear Club... this band is great too, but unless you haven't heard much music there are many more accurate comparisons that can be made.

In other news, I wish the guy who sings a good chunk of the last song on this demo sung more.

I really do think a lot of this sounds like Polar Bear Club. One riff is almost an exact rip off to one in Burned out in A Jar. Not so much the vocals, but the instruments.

I'm from Doylestown, and can't say I like Balance & Composure at all (especially since the local venue the Moose Lodge plays them 4 nights a week).

Tigers Jaw is a great choice though
