Media: Pansy Division: "That's So Gay"

Long running San Francisco-based pop punk outfit Pansy Division have announced their next full length. The record is titled That's So Gay and is due out March 31, 2009.

The album is their eight and first in six years. In the interim years, the group released The Essential Pansy Division [CD/DVD] and the new documentary, Life in a Gay Rock Band.

You know what I hate? Whenever I tell people I got into The San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the first thing they mention is the significant number of gays that live there. Nothing about how that's one of the best music school in the country or anything. Just about the gays. It's as if they're zombies and if they bite me I'll turn into one.

Dude, I live in SF..(all the way from Corpitos) and I have yet to actually go and give a shit as to how many gay people there are that live here. If you go up into the Castro and Potrero Hill, you'll find most of the houses are well kept and painted quite nice. If you go to the mission, you'll find slummy little apartments and the tamale lady standing outside of the bars between 16th an 22nd, and tons of Mexicans. Or if you run through the Fillmore and Western Addition, you might find some project type housing and more graffiti. In the middle of all of that, who the fuck gives a shit about how many gay people there are living in those communities???? Most of the people that bring dumb shit like that up have either or niether
A) Been To SF
B)Have only been a tourist and have gone no futher than Downtown/ Union Square
C)Have probably never been

Why did you move there? Just because?

If I get enough scholarship and all that to where I can for sure go to the school, I should be living at the Golden Gate Hall apartments. It said it's located 2 blocks from the Conservatory which is on 50th Oak Street. And yeah, it's pretty frustrating dealing with the people here. Fuck, when I was choosing schools to apply for, I had to choose between SF Conservatory and Boston Conservatory and my dad says to me "I don't know if this bothers you...but there are a lot of gays in San Francisco." I nearly lost it. There are lots of stereotypes about Texas that aren't true for the majority of the state, but the close minded attitude is definitely true.

And yeah, I won't lie. Moving is going to be a total culture shock. It isn't just "get on staples and turn on this street and there you are" like Cor

I moved out here in 2000 to work at a record label (who shall remain nameless, but focuses alot on SIZE) and from there went to tour the country and half of the world, before becoming a butcher for more stability, settling down, getting married, and becoming a father. I wouldn't move back to Texas if you fucking paid me, but if I had to move back, I would only live in Austin, since I lived there about 3 years before I came to California.

Oh yeah, for future reference... It's SF, San Francisco, or just "The City".. Don't ever call it Frisco, and never put anyone down for living in the east bay, because all they will tell you is "The best thing about San Francisco is that you can see the East Bay from it."

i'm from texas and i agree with the close minded attitude. i live in houston, so it's not like i like in a small town, but there are lot of redneck assholes here. i try to keep an open mind towards most stuff. i'm not a homophobic racist with obnoxious texas/USA pride. those people get on my fucking nerves.

I'll respectfully disagree on that last point. There's a great many wonderful women in LA that have fuck all to do with movie industry (thankfully). Those tanned blonde idiots and their ilk tend to stay in West LA and Hollywood.

I lived in SF for 5 years and I love the City, but that attitude about LA/Southern California got real annoying.

I got an advanced copy of this album since I ordered from their website. I quite like it. It's more like their live show and less jangly than their old stuff, so it was a little surprising at first. But it's damn solid and has a good mix of funny and serious songs.

Surprisingly, there's a few angry songs on it, too.

Haha, okay okay... I see how that looked, but that's not what I meant.

Look at their other albums. They have maybe two or three really angry songs the entire time, whereas, with this one, a decent percentage of the songs are out and out angsty.
