Rx Bandits: "Hope Is A Butterfly, Not Net Its Captor"

Rx Bandits have posted a new song from their forthcoming album. The record is titled Mandala and is due out July 28, 2009. The band is supporting the album by co-headlining a tour with Dredg this summer.

no offense but, the age argument is not relevant.

there are piles and piles of films like that for. there are several films that i have watched many times and have yet to say "well, ive dissected that enough." that doesnt seem feasible to me.

so, i feel just naming one film as the greatest of all time is a little childish (removing all releveance of your argument). I feel, as i get older, i will see more films and the answer to the question will be even harder for me to find (as there are far too many films that i have yet to see).

With each release, I was thrown back due to their progressive lack of ska, but liked the albums regardless. I'm not crazy about the new song or their live show which seriously lacks the older songs.

When I saw them last October(??) I was talking to Steve outside (I was very drunk), he noticed my Ska against racism t-shirt, and I asked him why they stopped playing ska....he said it was still in their hearts (or some shit like that), then when they went on they played 2 songs each from Halfway and Progress. That made my night...

That's pretty awesome actually. I can't picture them playing anything off Progress these days, except maybe Gun In Your Hand.

Ever since Steve Borth left the band to devote to Satori I knew it was going to be hard for me to really love them, but once Chris left the band also I lost all hope in them ever making a great album.

I mean ...And the Battle Begun wasn't a Ska album at all, but they made excellent use of blending in the horns with their sound which made them really stand out against other bands.

Yeah, the last time I saw them, they were horn-less, though the show was great (partly attributed to my excesive jim beam intake that evening).

But, yeah, I agree that ATBB was good even w/out the ska. As for the upcoming album, it's gonna be a crapshoot (in my opinion).

What the hell ever happened to Satori anyways? They were great, even though I almost got in a fight with their percussionist a few years back. Fuckin hippy must've been high on some shit and dancing with his arms flailing and falling on every one.

I appreciate this thread. Rx has forever been evolving, so to judge them on two albums from almost 10 years ago is unfair. I have been a fan forever and found it so hard to get into The Resignation, but once I did, ATBB blew me away right after that. I can't wait to hear the new shit. No to mention see how they manage without Chris. A little piece of my heart died when he left :(

sweet song, pretty stoked for the album. these guys have been ahead of the curve for quite some time. no song will ever come close to the title track of their last album though.

I used to find this band really interesting and innovative, especially for including horns and starting with more of a ska/reggae vibe, but with a strange indie-type twist.
Can't really get into the newer stuff, and I find it odd that now they would be touring with Dredg, when just not even 5 or six years ago, they were doing tours with Finch, Steel Train, and the rest of the Drive-Thru class.

Everyone download "Ways to Escape" by this Loved Ones-ish band called The Living Daylights, then listen to "My Return", and tell me which song it's ripping off... it's driving me crazy. Oh and then delete the album because downloading's illegal and all that. ;)

Yes, lots of similar traits between both, but living in the SF/Bay Area, you see them everywhere....
IN the 60's and 70's this place was fucking crawling with them, so alot of kids out there are grown into this "free-love" bullshit and don't wear shoes(if any, of course it's sandals), or deodorant, or even bathe. Some of the girls don't even shave their legs.. straight girls, too.
Most of the ones I've met out here were into really shitty techno live Happy Hardcore and wear Scooby-Doo T-shirts and Candy necklaces and bracelets. Only a couple of them were into actual music, like Zappa and The Doors.
And then they like to go to parties, and while everyone is dancing they will go sit on the side and start beating on some bongos.... fucking annoying!

Is that good enough?

How do they suck? They're more talented than most musicians can ever hope to be, we just don't like the type of music they play... they still don't suck. For some sort of example, I hate listening to most if not all metal bands, but I realize they don't suck.

Since music is subjective, I can honestly say most punk doesn't sound stupid to me. I do take the Descendents more seriously than Slayer because they surpass Slayer in song writing and listenability. Listen to "Maddie" and that is tastefully technical. Slayer's okay.

Maybe they are talented but it sounds awful to me.

Besides certain metalcore bands like Deadguy, Botch, Converge, Coalesce, etc., most metal is too campy and overdone for my liking.
