The Sandwiches, a band made up of Punknews community regulars, have unveiled their new song "Who is Phone" at MySpace. The song will appear on their upcoming debut full length Hitting Refresh to Drop Witty Comments due out this fall on Death to False Hope Records.

"Who is Phone" makes use of several Punknews comment-section memes, and as such we've secured the lyrics for you.

venerea..been meaning to ask this. They have a couple songs that sound like Bombs Over Providence. If they ever expanded on that sound, they would probably be my favorite band..Top 5 for sure.

Problem is, the other songs (ie the vast majority) just don't hit me the same way

But the Sandwiches really surprised me..sounds like venerea in way yes, but I was digging it alot. I thought it was going to be some retarded joke but its not (entirely)

Song weren't good, either. At least hte previous song I heard sounded like a really shitty Latterman, this one is just a game of "what part did we steal now?" hastly thrown together.

Also, 289 plays? Nice to see that there's a big amount of people who don't care about the comment section.

I think the pn community started to really great right after the Bemis incident. It makes sense that we should have a band and theme songs. I don't see how anyone could see this as anything other than fuxing awesome. It's like the last 5 years of pn rolled up into a song by pn regulars. What's not to like?

In their defense, it may be the way of the community' desire to want to unite. I was reading comments back when I was 12, (2003?) and there was less of a "community" and more just people showing up here and there. Sure it may seem exclusive, but the fact MattRamone even likes me (and I listen to pretty generic hardcore) means that the intentions are good. There is obviously better way to do this, but I think humor is an easy go-to common ground.

It does go a little too far. I hate when people talk shit about band members they don't even know more than memes.

I disagree, there were definently a community in 2003. That's about when it became one and not just random people. Most of those guys hung out until about 2006-2007 when the Navel Gazing crew stepped in.

Exclusive? Fuck no, I mean, take TheGimper, he posted like 10 times in 3 days and then "thanked the comminty" and became a mainstay with all those long instant message reply thingie. It's definently not exclusive. It's like "Hi! Just came back from Gaslight, I've got a beard!", follow it up with a stupid meme and you're the cool kid.

But yeah, the general attitude is harsh and very 4chan esque, with some people personally attacking band members just for being in a band, yet a guy like Android instantly chimes in explaining that they "did it for fun"..

Matt_Ramone had nothing to do with this song. I know he is listed as a member on myspace, but that´s about it. everything ever recorded and done by The Sandwiches was done by Scotty and me .

I mean, I was reading since 2003. I think around 2005-2006 is when the readership increased and the community kinda' fizzled. I guess this is trying to get back to it? I mean, Baldsteve has been here since the sites inception.

..Maybe that it's the last 4 years? I mean, if it were the 3 years before that it'd be fucking hysterical, mostly because those were actual fun jokes and not just random repeated "meme"'s.

I mean, stuff like Superdude's first run, WussEmoRock, "Label" vs Punknews, Pat41, hell even as far back as Fatheads genius h2o review.. That was all gold and wasn't just repeating a single phrase and being ironically ironic.

I'd say the "community" jumped the shark with "Vanflip" and Navel Gazing getting more comments than all the other stories of the week combined.

Hey, I get that this is your outlet for your little sub-genre group cliché thingie, but I don't HAVE to like it if I don't want to..

I don't really participate in the memes and I read the site when all the other stuff you mentioned occured. I think the real issue is you felt a part of that and you don't feel a part of this, teh communit changes as does the staff and their contributions. The song is making fun of the very thing you dislike, you are missing the point.

No. I mean, shit I even like some of the other songs or videos that have been made of this subject (on other places than punknews), but the general attitude of what the comments section of this site has became disgusts me. I'm not against off-topic stuff, but just spewing out random stuff and having 500+ comments on an article where about 10 are about the actual new post is just stupid.

I didn't feel like a part of "the older days", in fact I was the little kid who just observed and didn't really post at all.

of course you don´t have to like but to me you just sound like a bitter old man bragging about the "golden" past of the org(remeber the annoying someone´s? of course you don´t talk about that aspect) when jokes were still funny and the internet was still a nicer place.
we´re not glorifying memes, we just made a song out of them. it was fun. no harm done, buddy.and if you think our music sucks, fair enough.

Personally, I don't think there should be an endorsed "sound" or band for the site. I mean, I'm already kind of put off by how much everyone loves Gaslight, and it just seems like it becomes a clique, not a semi- news site.

Like, I actually appreciate that they put up stuff about music I don't like. As long as it's vaguely punk, or punk stuff doesn't get passed over.

Exactly. Yet the actually spent time making and "promoting" the song, so it's ironically ironic and I can't stand it.

It's like sucking the humour out of humour. It doesn't have to be "ha ha" funny all the time, but the substitute should be something like intelligence, recognition or surrealism.. Hell, anything but a triple doze of irony.

All the instruments are from scotty. He programs the drums, they aren't real. They just mailed the vocals. It probably took... not that long. They do know eachother too. Scotty helped put out red tape parade's demo.

I´m happy that there are message boards like this. I have to sit in front of a computer the whole day at work....go figure.
it took me less than one hour to record the song with back-ups and write the lyrics. that´s not a lot of effort in my book. but it was actually fun to do it. I don´t get it that this actually upsets anyone.

nope. scotty makes the whole songs by himself musicwise and sends them to me. I record the vocals in my basement in krautland and that´s it.
