Travis Morrison (Dismemberment Plan, Hellfighters) retires from music

Veteran musician Travis Morrison has retired from music. Morrison was the frontman of DC art-punks Dismemberment Plan and also released solo material under the name Travis Morrison Hellfighters. He posted his retirement announcement to his official website saying:

Retired! No shows, no records, no band. Just relaxing in Brooklyn. Befriend me on facebook. I'm so nice.

Morrison's last solo album was 2007's All Y'All.

that's kinda bullshit. can you really "retire" from music? that's like saying an artist is going to "retire from painting/sculpting/whatever." it's always going to be in you. unless he means just retiring from the touring/music industry life.

He's done with music entirely. He's throwing away his instruments, stereos, records, everything that relates to the concept of music. If he hears music coming from a TV or someone singing in public, he's just going to put his fingers in his ears and yell out gibberish to block out the sweet sweet melodies.

Man, that Hellfighters album is crap. Maybe he knows it.

I like me some D-Plan from time to time though.

Kinda bummer. I havn't gotten into any of his work post Dismemberment Plan, but that band was very influental on me when I really started getting into songwriting. Their arrangements were always awesome and totally illogical, but unless you dissected it, you wouldn't really know because everything had such a seemless flow to it.

But yeah, it's always a bummer when a super talented guy get fed up enough to not even fuck around in his past-time.

you better not be talking about clark sabine. i didnt know the guy personally but a lot of my friends were really distraught over his death.

i don't really understand what this has to do with d-plan.

i liked the dismemberment plan.

and seriously, travis is a nice dude. this is one of the weirder things i've seen a musician do over the years but dude is pretty awesome.

i did a pretty neato interview with them in 2001. great guys.

Sad news. The Plan were brilliant, his later stuff was alright but lacked the Plan band.
On a sadder note just checked out Statehood (band with Eric and Joe from DP) and found one of the band members died recently.
