Media: Dinosaur Jr: "Just Like Heaven (The Cure)"

In a new feature that is relatively safe for work (it's hosted on Playboy.com but is otherwise pretty clean) Dinosaur Jr. talked about their love of The Cure and performed their famous cover of "Just Like Heaven." The cover was originally released on a EP titled "Just Like Heaven" and also on the 2005 reissue of Dinosaur Jr.'s SST Records release, You're Living All Over Me.

Although I haven't listened to this, the version on You're Living All Over me is one of those covers that completely blows the original out of the water.

i accidentally clicked outside the video box and it took me to southern comfort's website. this whole trend where website backgrounds are linkable ads is such bullshit. if i need to highlight something and then click off text i don't want to spontaneously get taken to a new fucking website. ugh.

So I was thinking... What do you guys think is to old to be in a new band when you've never been known for any other band? I was thinking maybe late 20's or so.

Never.
If you have fun playing shows and being in a band, go for it.
There should not be an age limit for when you stop because you'll never make it.

Well I was thinking about all these kids on major labels these days that are younger then me. When all I've wanted is to be in a band. But you never really see a dude over thirty (I'm 24) getting popular. I know it goes against the whole punk rock aesthetic, but if no one gives a shit how are you going to get anywhere you know?

man, as long as you are having fun doing it and enjoying the music you are making, that's all that really matters. no matter what music you play, you will gradually build some kind of following cause everyone is into different shit.

Also, 24 is definitely not old as balls in any context, so I don't see why you're even worried about this sort of thing.

The thing is in all the bands I've been in I was just a singer. I don't know how to play anything, which is what I want to do if I ever do it again. And if you factor in learning how to play an instrument and being competent enough to write songs and play live. We're talking late 20's here for a guy like me before anyone even notices.

No, I understand. But maybe by the time you're 30-35 you realize that you aren't going to go anywhere and you just do it for fun at that point.

leonard cohen was 33 when he made his first album. kim gordon was 30 when the first sonic youth album came out. there are almost cetainly many more examples where those came from.

There is another really short track on there called Throw Down that is weird and dark, but good...
