After 19 years with Pennywise, Jim Lindberg has decided to step down as lead singer. Pennywise has long stood behind the motto that you should always follow your heart and pursue what makes you happy, and we wish Jim the best of luck in his new ventures, whatever they may be. Pennywise has become a way of life for a lot of people, and has definitely become a way of life for us. As the three remaining members of Pennywise we feel that we are not done delivering our message to our fans. The band last released Reason to Believe in 2008.
The band has always been about moving forward in life no matter what obstacles stand in front of you. We will begin our search for a new singer immediately. We will continue to tour the world and we are looking forward to writing new music. We've had a lot of good times and survived the hard times thanks to the undying support of our fans. We're looking forward to what the future may bring.

Full Circle is the only good thing this band ever put out. That being said, that album is perfect. 2+ Replies

For all of those who complained Pennywise released the same album over and over again, it's time to eat some crow.

Why so much hate for these guys ?Theyre a skate punk band that put on a great show when i saw them not too long ago. Straight Ahead,Full CIrcle,Unknown Road, even From The Ashes were all great albums. 7+ Replies

Oh dear fucking god no. Just change the fucking band name. God. Oh... oh god no.
millslane (August 22, 2009)
maybe a new singer would bring some much needed change. Scott Russo would be a good choice.

Pennywise were like a gateway drug for a lot of kids. Nothing wrong with that. As for the jock and bro band comments...can't say I agree with that. Why don't some of you fags man up a little and than people with a little bit of balls or whatever, won't make you feel so insignificant and angry to label people you don't even know. 2+ Replies

This is actually kind of a shocker; i guess i saw one of their last shows together as a band, when they opened for the offspring a few weeks ago. Also, Reason To Believe was actually a fairly decent step up for these guys.

Hmm, I'd prefer if they started a new project instead. I know some bands go through their share of lineup changes, but Pennywise has only had 1 in almost 20 years, and that was due to death. When the lineup is that consistent and such a key member (the singer/frontman) quits, I think I'd prefer that they hang up the banner. If the remaining guys want to keep going, I'd prefer if they just started a new project. That way if Jim ever wants to come back or do reunion shows then it can still be called Pennywise, and the shows will just be that much more well-attended. I guess I'm basically describing a Descendents/ALL scenario. I like Pennywise. Not in my top 5, but I've always enjoyed their albums. I thought Reason to Believe was better than the 2 that preceded it and a decent enough shift in direction. Unknown Road, Full Circle, and Straight Ahead are all pretty g show rest of comment 2+ Replies

Band's cant really control their fanbase, pennywise didn't deserve the fan reputation they ended up with. Knocking their music is a valid criticism though and to be honest, it wasn't great. 4+ Replies

I can't imagine liking an album of Pennywise without Jim's voice. I don't know, that seems a total nonsense. It used to be my favourite band, it's the band of my youth, when I hear them I hear the osundtrack of my youth. Without Jim I won't hear the same thing, so even if their new singer is good I think something is definitely broken from now on.

whoever the new singer will be has some serious shoesto fill, good luck to them. i will continue to listen

They should get the singer from No Fun At All, they've pretty much been ripping off P-Wise for years now and have you heard the end of their newest CD? Sounds like a homage to Bro Hymn. Sign him up!
stonedoutwrestlingchamp (August 22, 2009)
Brian from the Deviates should sing. He wrote the vocals to Victim of Reality off straight ahead and that is by far one of my favorite pennywise songs. It will still be very different but I think they are a band that could still put out quality stuff. Fletcher is a good guitarist regardless of how repetitive some songs may be.
loose72 (August 22, 2009)
maybe the singer from 98 Mute, but it would be so cool to see the singer from Fury 66 become lead vocals, yes iam too stoned right now to even think of either names..You know what what i am i saying break the fuck up...

The singer from "One Big Lie" would bring a sick change, and I heard he's moving on after 9 years? check em out on myspace. he also did vocals on the Uprising's new album, sick!!!--Go get him Fletcher!
RavenEffect (August 24, 2009)
Say what you want about Pennywise, but the band will never be the same without Jim. Theres a possibility this could be what the band needs after putting out so many mediocre albums the last few years, but I seriously doubt it. | Features
