Grant Hart (Husker Du) announces "Hot Wax"

Hüsker Dü drummer Grant Hart has announced his first solo album in a decade. The record is titled Hot Wax and is due out October 6, 2009. Joining Hart on the disc is a diverse cast of musicians from Godspeed You Black Emperor, Silver Mt. Zion, and Rank Strangers with the tracks being recorded in both Montreal and Minneapolis. Hart explains:

The song 'Narcissus, Narcissus' is my first attempt at combining ancient Greek mythology and American rock-a-billy. By merging those influences with an ice cream truck atmosphere I think I have found a style that defines this period of my career. 'You're the Reflection of the Moon on the Water' is one of the most organic rock and roll songs that I have ever written. It's style owes a lot to my devotion for Patti Smith.

Hart's former Hüsker Dü bandmate Bob Mould released his latest solo album, Life and Times, earlier this year on Anti- Records.

every bit as talented as Bob Mould....just could never get his shit together the same way.

Yes - a lot of his post-Husker stuff IS worth getting....but it's a less consistent catalogue than Mould's post-Husker stuff....but still worth sorting through to find the gems.

It's good....but I actually think it's one of their weaker records.

My favorites are Metal Circus, Zen Arcade, New Day Rising, Flip Your Wig and Warehouse: Songs & Stories.

I think the traditional consensus is that Zen Arcade & New Day Rising are the peaks of the catalog....but you really can't go wrong with any of their records.

The first album - Land Speed Record - is just a live messy thrash record....good - but not representative of the rest of the catalog.
