Tom Waits to release two-disc live album on November 24th

Tom Waits has announced a new live album covering his recent, sold out"Glitter and Doom" tour. The record is titled Glitter and Doom Live and is due out November 24, 2009. The first disc will feature 17 songs recorded from 10 cities, from Paris to Birmingham; Tulsa to Milan; and Atlanta to Dublin.

Disc Two is a bonus compendium called "Tom Tales," which is a selection of the comic bromides, strange musings, and unusual facts that Tom traditionally shares with his audience during the piano set. Waits' topics range from the ritual of insects to the last dying breath of Henry Ford.

Tom is also offering the first eight songs from the performance for a free download here.

I'm intrigued by it. It might turn out to be very interesting. Sounds more like a deranged comedy album. He had a couple tracks of this on the 3rd disc of Orphans.

I'm interested in everything Tom Waits says. I watch interviews with him over and over. Granted, I'm probably in the minority and you're probably correct. I know I'll enjoy it. I love this man.

I'm with you. He's like Werner Herzog in that I could just listen to him talk all day long, doesn't matter about what. He could be describing his trip to the corner store to get milk and I'd be hypnotized.

i love this guy but find his music (or whatever) unlistenable.

its like, i love to listen to his stuff on a rare occasion, generally while drunk, and often on a jukebox or while doing something.

i think tom waits is more awesome in theory than practice.

i'm fully and completely willing to put him on their level. dude has 18 albums, and every single one of them is at least "pretty good" and he's still pumping out quality shit after 36 years. even 'ol zimmerman had a down period, tom never has.

Right on. Perfect to pass time until a new album. Nothing he does is less than stupendous. His book of interviews, 'Innocent When You Dream' is kickass and I was reminded of it when the second disc was brought up. I gotta go listen to Nighthawks at the Diner now. . .

really his second. technically nighthawks at the diner is also a live album, but really it's a studio album recorded in front of an audience.

Hot damn, these songs sound better than ever, here. Depending how the rest sounds (I don't expect much deviation in quality) and the price of the album, this could be end up being my new first recommendation for prospective Tom Waits listeners.
