Punk's Not Dead to air on Fuse this month

The documentary Punk's Not Dead will be screened on FUSE on Monday, November 9th at 8pm, and will continue throughout the month.

As previously reported, the documentary focuses on the past 30 years in punk rock, with the social impact it has shown on everything from the orginal counter-culture, through its marketable image of today. The cast consists of a wide variety of bands, labels and personalities; providing both interviews and performances. Current stars like Green Day, Good Charlotte and Sum 41; punk staples such as Bad Religion, Pennywise, Rancid and the Casualties; and pioneers like the Ramones, Minor Threat and the Dead Kennedys are just some of groups featured in the presentation.

I'm not going to discuss the merits of the phrase 'punk's not dead' because it sounds stupid to begin with but a documentary that contains 30 years worth of stuff better have way more of the building blocks and different periods than just showcasing the diarrhea (good charlotte, sum 41) that just happened to show up.

There are so many ways for this to be terrible.

People have been saying this for the last 30 years man. No one who listens to punk really gives a shit. Might as well say metal is dead too because we have shit like Suicide Silence and Attack Attack. Same for hip-hop, since Lil' Wayne is so popular now.

There's always gonna be shitty music in every genre. The shameful thing is that it gets waaaaaay more attention than any artist that comes out with any merit. Don't know why, but if anyone wants to help take care of the stupid "genre X is dead" trend, we can all try to avoid the rampant shit-talking off things that we all know are unbearably stupid, and instead focus on the many (often overlooked) great things to come out of every genre.

There are still a shitload of new punk bands coming out with albums and stuff now; This is a Standoff, Psyched to Die, No Friends, Propagandhi, etc.

I just know a documentary that is geared towards a FUSE type channel is going to leave out so much that the only thing you are going to get is a few talking heads of the epitaph roster giving sound bites.

I just can't imagine this being fun to watch.

I have it on my cable. When I pass it it's either playing some horror movie, a video of some ugly dudes with girl hair and clothes playing music that sounds like birds dying/Lil Wayne or some coundown bullshit.

They had a show that played old stuff that I caught a couple times. It's fun to see Samiam and Sunny Day Real Estate videos on tv.

The movie is ALL ABOUT the old guys calling out the new guys and the new guys defending themselves... However, since it was put on the shelf for years, it's all super pathetic.

this is actually a pretty sweet documentary. its one of the few docs that don't forget that hardcore existed in the 80s.

It's really good. One of the best documentaries I've ever seen on anything. They do skip over some stuff (see - The Dead Kennedys), but it's still a really good watch.

I suggest reading the book, too.

Disagree. It's a good intro to the genre but when you point out its faults, it looks pretty weak. It grossly overlooks fanzines.

This movie is fucking horrible. Don't get me wrong - I love documentaries like these and I even liked American Hardcore alot, but this one is just so fucking horribly bad and it was shelfed for 3 years before anyone even saw it..

That being said, who's stoked for ONE NINE NINE FOUR? And did anyone see Anvil? Such a good documentary.

I saw this through Netflix. It was cool, but nothing super special. Some of the interviews are pretty neat. Tim Armstrong gives a cool response to "Is punk dead"? Say what you will about Rancid, but they always give really insightful answers on what "punk" means to them.

Punk's not dead, there was just someone pretending to be punk and emailing a blog and then someone pretending to be punk's wife emailed and said that punk was dead when really it wasn't even punk in the first place and it was all an elaborate internet hoax.

This movie was a disaster. They had an excellent chance to really explore the late 90's and early 00's punk scenes and showcase them (both mainstream and indy). Instead all they did was focus on the typical SoCal and UK bands everyone loves and picked on the fake pop punk bands that got big.

I'd rather watch American Hardcore (which I wasn't crazy about, but still was decent) or Punk Attitude. Fuck this movie.

It had some interesting moments; like the bands discussing the explosion of punk in the early 90s; and the bit about the dude from the Addict's home life was entertaining.

That said, i didn't really care for it. They could have focused on the mountains of awesome current bands except they spent most of their time following washed up bands from the 80s and then spent about a third of the movie on hot-topic and a bunch of pop-rock bands. I mean, i got what they were trying to say "punks not dead because it never went away", but it just fell flat.

It would have been a lot more interesting if they had continued to trace the history of punk throughout the rest of the 90s (not just up to 94) and into the 00s.

Saw it 2+ years ago. It sucked. The people at the theatre were street punk, middle school kids w/ patched jackets w/ their middle class punk parents. It played where I saw Jello Biafra speak years before.
