Vegan Reich reactivating

According to their MySpace, the controversial hardline group Vegan Reich are writing and rehearsing for a new record. Led by Sean Muttaqi and often credited as being the originators of the vegan straight edge movement, the group's latest offering was an EP, Jihad, released in 1999 by Uprising Records. Along with their hardline beliefs, the band gained some notoriety for the drummer on that EP, Andy Hurley of Racetraitor who went on to join Fall Out Boy.

As of yet, no release date has been given for the new record.

wow, i just listened to this band for the first time, i already knew that i hated their opinion with their conservative vegan facism stance... but damn their music sucks bad too. In fact the music is ok, but damn, the vocals sucks, the singer sounds like a really bad hairmetal singer on Rage of a prophet

THIS is stupid. every time someone gets upset with propagandhi approaching veganism/animal rights with intelligence and humor in their songs, the anger should really be directed towards bands like this and earth crisis who take the issue to a level of sheer stupidity.

totally backed. Propagandhi manage to use humor and usually at least some level of "wit".

I'm vegetarian (was vegan for 4 years, but opened up my diet after I got mono) and I have to say that even in a metropolis, I have had trouble finding a non-meat eater that I click with anyways. Most of the hardcore guys I know who eschew meat are sort of self-righteous pricks.

But smoking. That's probably my deal-breaker. I've tried dating smokers, I always end up asking them to brush/gargle after they smoke. And then I feel like the hag, even if they make me gag when they kiss me. Gah.

While we're on the subject, what's the connection to being vegan and straight edge? Maybe there is no connection for you, but if there is such a thing as a "vegan straight edge" genre of music, then I have to assume there is some connection. I could think of a few, but they are all pretty weak.

Well I both see them as being counter cultures and a lot of vegans are edge and a lot of people who are edge are vegan, that is sort of the best thing I could say sorry if that sounds really stupid. As far as a music genre I don't think their is one. If you go to last.fm and type vegan under tag a whole bunch of bands will play same thing with if you type straight edge in the tag section, but I doubt their a tag for straight edge vegan.

It's fucking people like these guys that make a mockery of vegetarians/vegans and the whole animal rights movement for that matter. Their politics are just plain fucked and retarded. Say dumb shit like people who eat meat should die, and then sit back and wonder why vegans have to go through so much ridicule and bullshit. Dumbasses, people have the right to choose whether you think its wrong or right. I wish the whole world would stop consuming animals, but i'm not gonna kill someone who doesn't agree with that, nor will I send them on a guilt trip about it. To each their own.

Haha. You can say whatever you want. All I was saying was, the ability to decide individually what is right and wrong is an interesting debate. Personally, I agree with you, but consider the following:

(Most) Meat Eaters - I like meat, it tastes good, so eating meat is right

Vegans - Eating meat causes undue suffering, so not eating meat is right

Doesn't one of those positions seems inherently more right than the other. I just think it's an interesting topic, that's all.

It was a rhetorical question, but I do see where your coming from. I think that one of the major problems with the world today is people trying to force their beliefs on everyone else. There is no consideration for others, especially when it comes to what one person thinks is right and wrong. I'm not gonna invite people over and cooked them a plateful of steak, but I wouldn't go out to a resturaunt with them and try to dictate what they order. I think eating meat is wrong, but I see the act as bad not the person. (if that makes any sense) therefore I'm not going to hurt a person I don't think is bad. Like I said to each their own. I don't agree with consuming animals but who am I to tell anyone that they can't. All I can do is educate on the subject when it is inquired about and then let people choose for themselves, and thats how I feel it should be.
