Haven't been able to get into this at all. Cuban Ballerina grabbed me by the balls and didn't let go. I miss Jack. 1+ Reply

First listen didn't really blow me away like CB. But after a few more listens it's really growing on me. I think i just wanted it to be more of the same and when it wasn't it took me a bit of time to get over it.

yeah, Jack and his signature sound is long gone, but its cool, i like that dead to me is switching up their sound. I'm really interested to see where they go from here.

This record is really different than Cuban Ballerina in a lot of ways. I love Nathan and I think he's a great addition to the band (well, song writing wise, he's been with them for what, three years now?). I also like that Nathan does his own thing and not just try to impersonate Jake, it really brings in a new element, plus I feel it really expands his guitar playing. That said, I do miss the strong vocal back and forth of Chicken and Jack. It's not that Nathan's voice isn't good, it's just that they seem to have delegated more songs as one or the other and not so much the dual vocals. Also, this album is much more of a slow burn than Cuban Ballerina (and that should be evidenced by the first track). It's not as punchy or quick moving but the songs linger on you for a while and really make me want to spin it again. I can't tell right now if I li show rest of comment 5+ Replies

pretty good album. Nathan's voice is sick. I like how they do different stuff instead of trying to sound like dead to me. Miss jack though, he balanced the edge that chicken gives

Some of you guys are being way to generous, I think. If Jack was on this it would be album of the year, definitely top 5. The only way this makes my top 10 is if it makes it by default. I love this band so much, CB is a perfect record, but this album is a huge let down. I like Chicken's songs, and one or two of the new guy's, but the rest is so horribly mediocre. 3+ Replies

this is my fave record of the year. It's fucking smart. Better songs than Cuban...

Hahahaha... I knew this shit was going to be a grower for everybody. Things have changed since the album leaked ;)
mike_b (November 5, 2009)
Yeah it definitely grows on you.

This is pretty good. Also, the band still owns live. I am glad that I wasn't let down by this release.

"Blue" sounds waaaaaay too much like Nirvana. I don't know if I think it's awesome or horrible. 1+ Reply

judging by this album, I would be 100% fine with Jack never coming back. They can stand on their own, and given that I like this better... 1+ Reply

so fucking good! haven't stopped listening to it for weeks! best band in sf. love you dudes!
OneManArmy (November 7, 2009)
Yea..I am not feeling this album. Jack's departure is very evident. Not that same raw well balanced PUNK rock that he is always great at creating. Nates vocals isn't bad but nothing special/original to it. Most of the songs are too slow IMO. I orored the album but I am not sure it's going to get the playtime that the previous two releases got..... | Features
