In Memoriam: Jerry Fuchs of Maserati and !!! (1974-2009)

Drummer Jerry Fuchs of !!! and Maserati has passed away in an elevator accident. According to an ABC News report, Jerry was trying to jump out of a disabled elevator car when his clothing caught on something.

He was unconscious and unresponsive when emergency responders brought him to Bellevue Hospital Center. He was pronounced dead at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, about three hours after the fall in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.

His Maserati bandmates posted on Twitter saying:

With overwhelming sadness, bids farewell to our drummer and dear friend Jerry Fuchs. Love you, bro.

Our condolences to his friends and family.

I didn't like these guys at all when I saw them with Mono, but that doesn't change the fact that he was easily the most talented member of this band and didn't deserve to die in what sounds like a deleted scene from Final Destination. RIP

From what I understand, a freight elevator he and a friend were on got stock just above the fifth floor. There was a 3-4 foot over lap between the elevator doors and the fifth floor doors. His friend jump out of the elevator to the fifth floor safely. He attempted to do the same, but his clothing got caught on something in the elevator which pulled him back and swung him into the shaft under the elevator.

Holy fucking shit, you have no idea how unreal this kid was in Maserati. We played with them at the middle east a while back, and he owned face.

Wow what a weird way to go. I don't understand the "jump out of" thing though, I've had to climb out of disabled elevators before and there's not usually room to "jump" out, or even a way to possibly fall down the shaft. I'd like to know the details

The article made it sound like it was a modified freight elevator in a loft building. The article also said that there were 10 illegal Elevator issues. Not sure what those issues were, maybe one of them is the ability for somebody to fall down the shaft 4 stories.

So sorry to hear this. I was once stuck in an elevator for a couple of hours (after it dropped two floors to the bottom) with eight other people and am now totally phobic with them.

My sincerest condolences to his friends and family.

I hate accidents like this. Such a sad story to hear. I never listened to these bands but this is just horrible hearing about.
