i listened to this the other day on MySpace and really dug it a lot more than I thought I would. in fact, outside of the weird London Callingish first track I thought it was fucking awesome and way more creative than the first record.

I disagree, this album isn't that great. Nowhere near as good as Cuban Ballerina or Little Brother. There are some good songs on the album but there's no energy in the songs the way there was on the previous two releases. I think Jack's absence is quite prominent on African Elephants. The band kinda sound like other bands too much now. I hope Jack returns to the band soon, he was great in One Man Army and carried that sound through really well in Dead To Me's first two releases. Overall this album was disappointing, gonna be a while til the next great Fat Wreck release. Whenever the new Mad Caddies album will be out, should be good, they always deliver.

A friend of mine, who was a HUGE OMA fan even said, he's glad Jack left, because DEAD TO ME wouldn't have ever made this record if he was in the band...

Yes, Jack’s absence is very noticeable. I was quite disappointed when I read the news about his parental leave back summer.
I think Cuban Ballerina and especially Little Brother showed a lot of potential (well, the only bad thing about Little Brother was its being too short), so I was really looking forward to the next Dead To Me release. Of course, this album is not what I had been hoping for.

But, it is not a bad record at all. Put aside the expectation that Cuban Ballerina and Little Brother built up. What you will hear then is a pretty great (and somehow cute?) punkrock record.

Not easy to get into this album. A few tracks aren't bad, but it's not my favorite. Still have lots of love for Dead to Me, and I might check out the show at Thee Parkside. Definitely going to the Lawrence Arms show tomorrow night, though!

This album is so good, and they sound really good live even wihout jack. i like the variety in this album, much better than their first album.

Loved Greatest Story Ever Told, hated O Calcutta
Loved Cuban Ballerina, hate African Elephants.
