KROQ announces 2009 "Almost Acoustic" Christmas with AFI, Rise Against, 311, Muse

Long running Los Angeles-based radio station KROQ has announced the lineup for this year's upcoming Almost Acoustic Christmas. The event will feature a number of favorites including AFI, Rise Against, Alice In Chains, 30 Seconds To Mars, Three Days Grace, Anberlin, Dead By Sunrise, Muse, 311, Slightly Stoopid, Phoenix, The Bravery, Metric, Vampire Weekend, Cage the Elephant and White Rabbits.

The event takes place at the GIbson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, California for two nights, December 12th and 13th.

so, is "almost acoustic" like, a joke, because these bands, like, totally rock so hard that it's not really even close to acoustic at all?

or do they actually get these bands to play in stripped-down form?

would love to see an acoustic slightly stoopid set, for sure!!!

Never attended but the shows are usually acoustic from footage I've heard afterward.

I think initially it was "acoustic xmas" because everyone played stripped down. Over the years, bands have gotten away from that, thus the "almost acoustic" thing.

Why because I enjoy the first 5 311 albums?

311 as a band died after Soundsystem, now they are more concerned with 311 as a money making entity.

I'll still put Grassroots and Transistor up against 99.9% of the albums talked about on this site.

i have the full video of this "almost acoustic" from rise against in 2008. it's a common rise against show. no-acoustic. (with the exception of hero of war. =P)

AIC would be worth checking out, acoustic or not. Maybe the other bands wouldn't sound as shitty if they tried reworking the songs in acoustic form, but theres probably not much they can do to save em.

Oh trust me, I hear you, it's not AIC, but it's still a great band. Check out the new album, if you haven't already. It's missing the hooks of the old stuff, and obviously Layne's amazing voice, but I was pleasantly surprised how good the album is. They put on a great live show too. Just gotta get past the name.

Totally agree. And while Layne's voice was great and is missed, Jerry sang almost half the material anyway, and Duvall's voice is great, so it still works.
