Alternative Press is hosting the premiere of the new video from Cheap Girls for "Ft. Lauderdale," a song from the band's 2009 full-length My Roaring 20s.

The band is currently on tour with The Riot Before.

Never saw hurt locker but I find it exceedingly difficult to believe it was so much markedly better than I.B. for the former to have been the slam dunk everyone said it was and that it proved to be. And I don't even like tarantino.

There's an old saying of, "A weak film can be redeemed with a strong ending". Basturds was the exact opposite. It was an okay film but at the end you could almost hear Tarantino masturbating at his own asinine ideas. As a whole it was okay (if you don't mind the minimal character development [outside of the Jew Hunter], stereotypical nazis and two incoherent plot lines that never actually intersect) but the ending was such bullshit that I couldn't possibly take the movie seriously. If someone said, "It's a great pop corn flick, with some great dialogue and a killer performance by a skilled German actor" I'd agree 100%. You start saying, "best picture of the year" and you got some bullshit.

I could not agree more. In fact here is an exact quote of my abbreviated feelings on that movie. After posting it I was hounded by people who obviously are better critics than I.

"It was a cobbled together set of barely related scenes with virtually no context, no sympathetic characters save for one, no historical accuracy (which is really a minor thing) and a 2 leads that are so cartoonish that I kept expecting one of them to say "Exit, stage left". To me it was just a canvas for the Tarantino to ejaculate excessively long scenes of dialogue that are neither witty nor based in a modicum of realism. And the actions of the character contradict themselves continually. Like I said...it was ok."

and I think all your criticisms are valid, yet actually work okay except why was the ending so tame? I guess it is supposed to contain the coup de grace of them all, but in tarantino world, (which I LOVE) you gotta go bigger than that.

Exactly. If the ending had been done right those issues would have been a moot point. Instead you end up with a shit sandwich sandwich masquerading as an awesome burrito. Jew Hunter cops a deal?! Suddenly we're suicide bombers? Yet we use our guns and forget about the dynamite?! Not to mention...the first scene. The guy goes to all that menacing trouble trying to out the jewish family and he JUST LETS THE GIRL RUN AWAY?! Never to look for her again? I mean, it's the first fucking scene, and he's already acting out of character! The more I think about that movie the more it pisses me off. I don't get the adulation.

You're right. And my comments were posted at the film's three quarter mark. I expected shit to be boiling to a mind fucking conclusion, but it was all a bit too neat n tidy. Why the hell would you, would HE of all people, stop where he stopped? I was expecting more inglorious bastardizing in a movie called inglorious bastards.

Go see the Hurt Locker, i assure you, it won't disappoint.

I think that Tarantino should have taken best director, but i was pretty happy with Hurt Locker taking best picture.

agreeing with the IB comments above. highly entertaining, but the four chapters seemed like a way to circumvent plot and character development. i loved all the separate parts, but the storytelling didn't bring them together very well.

Tarantino is far better than most of the tripe that tends to hit major theaters, but he'll never make a "Best Picture." He's a master craftsman to be sure, but everything he does is myopically self-indulgent and derivative down to every minute detail.

If I had gotten "My Roaring 20's" before mid-December it would have possibly been one of my top 3 albums of 2009. As it stands, I've listened to it more than anything else this year, although White Crosses is catching up. I LOVE THIS BAND.
