Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:

Q: Are we reaching the saturation point for the melodic punk à la Latterman bands? I know the people commenting on the site love that stuff, but it just seems like those bands are the new "punk vocalist plays folk music" thing. A: I think we're far, far past the saturation point. What's great about Latterman (and Hot Water Music, and the Lawrence Arms, and Jawbreaker) is that they did something that was, for the most part, new, original, exciting and intelligent, both lyrically and musically. Of course they had influences, but they took those influences and created something new with them instead of just wearing them on their sleeves and aping their heroes note for note.

Now we just have an influx of bands that instead of striving for that sort of artistic accomplishment are content sloppily playing a few chords and singing songs about whiskey. AND IT'S BORING.
