The Clash's "London Calling" being used in 2012 Olympic ads
by The Clash

NPR is reporting that The Clash's "London Calling" is being used by the organizers of the 2012 Olympic summer games in London. It's a curious choice given the song's lyrical content that paints a dark, apocalyptic portrait of the city. The BBC picked up the story, with music journalist Marcus Gray adding his take:

"London Calling is a classic example of a song that has become so familiar that its original meaning has been lost. It's instantly recognisable and superficially the perfect invitation to the capital and the world's premiere sporting event, but it's actually about the end of the world, at least as we know it."

The advertisements have yet to make their way online.
