Fishbone addresses Bachmann controversy

In a new video interview, Fishbone's Angelo Moore and Norwood Fisher took a moment to talk about the controversial episode of Jimmy Fallon's show where The Roots chose to perform their song, "Lyin' Ass Bitch." The two members also discuss the recent documentary about their career, Everyday Sunshine and their new album, Crazy Glue.

Just basically say that the song was an appropriate thing to play for Bachmann, then most of the rest of the video is about their new album.

The bigger news in this video is that they flat-out dismiss a possible reunion with the original members.

Bachmann's example of Michelle Obama isn't really apt, because a) she doesn't have any official capacity and b) she doesn't lie (through genuine ignorance or by underhanded misrepresentation) about almost everything she says. If she wanted to wave a female democrat example around, surely Hilary would've made more sense?

In Bachmann's defense, I don't think saying kooky shit because of ignorance or madness constitutes "lying." A lie is a deliberate act, whereas Evangelical Christianity is pretty much an expression of mental illness. As far as I'm concerned, she has an insanity defense for seeming mendacious. Because that shit is keeee-razy.

So let me get this straight...you take a fringe, reductionist faction influenced by a poorly constructed, century old theology and make that the sum total of all evangelical Christianity? Sir, respectfully, you're understanding of Christianity is lacking, as is your ability to distinguish bad praxis from "mental illness". I too would frustrated if I thought the Christian message was what you have reported it to be. Fortunately, it's far from it.

If you're the reading type, start with Augustine of Hippo. If you're looking for something more recent try Francis Collins, Thomas Torrance, or C. John Collins.

If you're not the reading type, stop making comments that should only be made by reading types.

Fringe?!? I think the largest and fastest-growing denominational group in America is hardly "fringe."

I'll have you know I am VERY much the reading type; I have read Augustine and Aquinas and Calvin and C.S. Lewis and blah blah blah. However, I have also read the BIBLE, which is a conspicuous omission from your little list. I assume you didn't include it because any sane person who read it cover-to-cover would be absolutely horrified. And yes, I am including the New Testament, only a small fraction of which includes the "good stuff" Jesus said. And as I've said on this board many times before, even if it WERE all good, the concept of vicarious redemption --which is the crux and the chief commonality among all denominations -- is obscene enough to render the entire religion immoral and unsound.

I can sympathize with people lacking in any meaningful understand of how the universe works turning to monotheism. But for people living in educated, industrialized countries, there really is no excuse, nor is there any philosophical or intellectual argument for it that can even remotely hold water anymore. God is dead, and his followers are the LIVING dead.

Wow! Quite angry aren't you? I've seen a few of your posts and I do declare, you Sir/Madame are of the rather embittered sort. Do tell us, what is your story? How did you get to be so hostile to religion? As for your apparent wholehearted acceptance of the THEORY of evolution, do you then believe Darwin's claim that white people are descended from the intelligent primates, the chimpanzee, while blacks and Orientals (his word,not mine) are desecended from the less intelligent gorillas and orangutan? Many have attributed this claim to H. Klaatsch, a prominent German evolutionist, but either way, a tad bit racist, wouldn't you say? Darwin also opined that those with dark skin (Africans, American Indians,Pygmies) were "savages", "degraded", "lower organisms". Do you concur? And let's not get into Evolutionary Psychology, which can be interpreted as bigoted. Do you subscribe to all of this? I

I call B.S....Dispensationalism is hardly the "fastest growing" denominational group in America. 25 years ago maybe, but not at all right now. It's mostly relegated to 50 year old's tuesday night bible study...not very common place outside of dicussions in Dallas and Louisville. So yeah, it IS pretty "fringe". The problem, as the article you posted gets at, is the children of a post darby/scofeild generation understand little about eschatology but alot about what liberalism "feels" like. They hunker down on the nation state Israel = Actual Biblical Israel because they think it's safe. Further...you find me 50 dispens who can even explain what that means and I'd be shocked.

Secondly, you're dramatically oversimplifying the social dynamics at play here. Falwell's moral majority dug some deep deep roots, and they aren't coming out without 1) a ridiculous rise in the number of theolo

Thrid, Hitchen's book and his claim that vicarious redemption is immoral is just flamethrowing...not helpful. . I've been kind enough to engage what you're saying here, not some giant straw man which I think might represent your point just enough . The same would be appreciated in return. You're not speaking much in the way of specifics...and that's part of the problem. Many of the more aggressive opponents of the Christian message wish to somehow make it fit into a one size-fits-all box (which is often the one represented by some country Pentecostal preacher) and then dismiss it without really saying anything more than the bible is somehow unmoral and we live in a broken world.. If you're going to do something like claim that over half the planet is "immoral"...HALF THE PLANET, you'd need something better than a retread of Hume and Huxley.

What makes the Bible horrifying? Elisha's bears? Jael's tent peg? Does it really surprise you that people act like people?
