Brandon Cruz quits Dead Kennedys

"Brandon Cruz has officially quit as singer of Dead Kennedys. No details on the circmstances, but Cruz is still recovering from the seperated shoulder he got in England, and doing local gigs with his band, Dr. Know. After Cruz was unable to go to Norway for 4 gigs, the band got yet another singer, "Jeff", to go on the short trip with them. Cruz sang for the band for almost two years, touring Soth America, Europe, Asia, and the states. Russia and Japan, along with Brazil, Argentina, and Chile all got their first ever live shows of Dead Kennedys while Cruz was with them. There was a lot of controversy when Cruz first started with the band. Jello Biafra fans were not too pleased that the band would do anything without him. After most gigs, the most vocal opponents where usually the ones on stage, singing along. No official word from either Cruz or the band has been issued, but the reasons Cruz is leaving may add yet another chapter to unhappy ex front men for Dead Kennedys. I hope Cruz only does Dr. Know and let's Dead Kennedys self destruct. Or has that already happened?"

I know it's schadenfreude to say this, but this is good news and I hope the Faux Kennedys self destruct, both figuratively and literally.

It should be emphasized that this hasn't be confirmed by the Kennedys nor by Cruz, so in spite of the submitters definitive stance, take it with a grain of salt.

this is brandon. a friend of mine posted that after we were talking about why i quit. simple. no new material, no tour for me.. i was tired of doing the same songs all the time. i loved all of the punks i got to meet all over the world, and even though there were some people who thought the new lineup should have never happened, 99% of the people who came to the gigs were very supportive, and i think a few people who came in pissed left feeling pretty good. klaus, d.h., and ray are great musicians, and it was fun. for a while. now i'm back to doing dr. know and actually being with my family for a change. it was fun, like i said, but when the fun was over, it was time to move on. it's not like it was ever my band in the first place. if anyone doubts that this is me, email me at drknow@dr.com love it or hate it, it happened, and now i am done. thanks, brandon

the Misfits with Marky Ramone and Dez Cadena, and one original Misfit, doing a washed-up-old-punks nostalgia tour... Rollins Band doing Black Flag songs with Keith Morris... the Sex Pistols back on the road... suddenly the DKs flogging the dead horse doesn't seem like such a big deal anymore.

I tried to tell a firnd of mine that the Sex Pistols were touring with their original lineup,and he said,and I quote "Sid Vicious is dead,how can it be original ?" And I tried to explain it nicely,and he started talking shit.I was like "what the fuck ?" I wasn't alive back then,but at least I'm open to other people's knowledge,he pissed me off,and it led to "punker than thou" argument,which led to nothing good...

* The Fiend Fest has the Damned, The Dickies, Agnostic Front, Balzac and D.I. who are far from washed up. * The Black Flag reunion show here in LA with Keith Morrism, Ron Reyes and Dez is a benefit for cat rescue. My problem with the "new" Dead Kennedy's isn't about who-fucked-over-whom, but the fact that it's weak to reunite a band like the Dead Kennedy's without one of the crucial parts. It would be just as weak for Jello to go out there with some backup band and call himself the Dead Kennedys.

i'll still listen to dk... i don't hate their music.. i just happen to hate all but 1 member of the original band (and i'm actually not extremely fond of biafra, but i take sides with him on the matter). you'll never see me at a "reunion" show and you'll never see me wearing my DK shirt ever again. after some shit happened with the band, brandon has decided to stay at home with his family and work on new dr. know material. the rest of the band is still going to go o ut on tour with another new guy. brandon has also stated that his decision was based on the fact that dead kennedys told him they would not be doing a new album. cruz has been quoted as saying if nothing new was going to be done, he was quitting. so there you have it. no more cruz in dead kennedys.

the coolest thing about the movie "The Bad News Bears" is that Brandon Cruz and El Hefe (George Gonzales) are in it. What are the chances of two punk rockers in a movie when they were like 9. Brandon Cruz is the kid on the Yankees who gets slapped by his father in the middle of the game. This made him angry and he joined DK. El Hefe is one of the little spanish kids with pretty much no lines. Check it out.

Jello Biafra WAS the Dead Kennedys. He contained all the sarcastic, yet intelligent and thoughtful lyrics and attitude of the band. They may have won their case against him, but now they're lost. No one really knows who the other members are....I mean, Jello is probably the first one to be named.

Holier than thou punk ethos crock of shit. Last time I checked, Biafra fucked these guys over. He put his agenda and personal interests over the those of his "friends". Good for them that they can play music they helped create within bowing down to that egotistical prick. Oh forgive me, they are actually making money, as if they are entitled to nothing for the scene they helped create and foster. Yes, he Jello wrote some crazy lyrics and was a great front man but why he's still considered some kind of icon is beyond me. He's a joke at this point, has been for about ten years.
