"This is a syndicated article that has been picked up by a few weekly papers and online news outlets. I think the most interesting thing about all these political interviews that PV bands do with mainstream media is that journalists seem really eager to debunk Punkvoter's efforts and downplay it's potential. They always come with questions like "Are punks really gonna make a difference?", etc. Oh, we'll get 'em in the revolution. They'll hang from trees I tell ya! Yeah."
To see the article in question, simply click here. In semi-related news, today is Fat Mike's birthday. He might be thirtysomething in his mind, but he'll always be thirteen in ours. Punk Voter (302 comments)

everything he said is just rehash, but i did not like how the reporter WAS trying to fumble him up and make him seem like an idiot. Fat Mike did an admirable job against the media. 2+ Replies

That interviewer was a complete asshole, trying to slant the story the entire time. What about the slant Fox News puts on everything? Is that okay, because they're older and have a shitload of cash? 5+ Replies

First of all, I stated punkvoter.com after the 2000 presidential election when Bush didn't win, but moved into the White House anyway.
What horseshit. This man knows nothing about how the voting system works in this country, and obviously bought into that leftist propangda bullshit on how he "stole" the election.
Bush won the electoral votes. It IS possible to win a select number of states without necessarily winning the popular vote, it's happened before. The popular vote doesn't mean jack shit when winning. The only thing that matters is who has more electoral votes and Bush did. Even AFTER they recounted all those votes in Florida, TWICE in many counties, Bush was STILL ahead.
And the fact that he didn't vote until the 2000 election is just laughable. How old is he again? Yeah, exactly.
You know, I have no problem what-so-ever about people griping about Bush. There show rest of comment 19+ Replies

first: the interviewer wasn't that bad. those were fair questions, alternet.org is an excellent news site with chomsky, zinn, and even michael moore as contributors.
secondly: fat mike's heart is in the right place, but his brain isn't. this is obviously a partisan, leftist organization, and fat mike grossly contradicts himself on that point. additionally, fat mike just plain isn't a good political spokesman.
thirdly: on the whole, as the most well-known "punk" political organization in the history of this country, this organization in the public view ultimately ends up representing all those associated with the punk movement in the political sphere. if they make even a single public relations mistake, fail to eloquently elaborate a position, or any other error they will discredit all those associated with the punk movement. this campaign needs to be more organized, with a show rest of comment 2+ Replies

You people are FUCKING RETARDS. So is Fat Mike by the way... eventhough I like NOFX's music. Sorry to let you ignorant bastards down, but George Bush has done a great job as president, prevdnting future terroist attacks, and chopping down the terrorist regimes in the middle east. He will be relected, and if not... then we are in serious trouble if we are stuck with one of these Democrat clowns that are running. Nobody cares about the punk scene and it doesnt matter what Fat Mike says. Contrary to popular belief on this site... Fat Mike is not famous and he has no influence on this election. Also, the punk scene is full of 14 yr old babies that still have to graduate into High School, before they can even think about getting ready to vote. 9+ Replies

Since he squeaked by (and Gore compounded his electioneering errors by not demanding a recount of the entire state), Dubya does not have a mandate from the electorate. He's responsible for the following actions since taking office in 2000: further privatization of public resources, installation of a more permanent aristocratic class [see tax cuts, especially his abolition of the estate tax], attempted gutting of various environmental regulations and agencies, increased internal police powers, increased domestic and foreign militarization, and on and on. This radical turn to the right (much more so than Clinton and the DNC) lacks legitimacy because at least 50% of the electorate oppose him and did not vote for him. Heck, he ran as a "compassionate conservative", and he's governing like a right wing wacko.
If he had a mandate from the voters like 70% voted for him, clearly his wishes and

Screw the Democrat$ and the Republican$!!! We need a new party. The only thing the Democrat$ and Rpublican$ care about is how much bling bling they get. The don't give a shit about your freedoms, you finaces, or you life becuase if you die your family has to pay taxes on your dead body and the government gets money. Do you think Bush cares that people are dieing in this war, no, becuase is top campian contributer, Halliburton, has the oil contractand that means $$$. So I guess what I'm saying is have an open mind, pick who you think is right. If more people vote for Libertarians or Green or what ever we can kick the two money hungary partys out of the White house. 3+ Replies

You little children are such fools. If I were a soldier defending your freedom overseas, when I got back I would piss on your fuckin ungreatful faces. You scumbag motherfuckers. Maybe you should give our president and government credit for making sure there hasnt been another terrorist attack since 9/11. If you dont believe that our govt has thwarted more than 100 attacks since 9/11, then you are fucking stupid. I would like to see what happens to this country if Dean were elected. This is a moron who honestly feels that the world is not any safer without Hussein. He also beleives that we shouldnt blame Osama for 9/11 until we find more proof. Take a look at the candidates running, and if you can possibly align yourself with Dean it means you have serious problems! 8+ Replies

Reiterating what many others have said, I believe that Fat Mike's heart is in the right place, but it just doesn't seem like he's knowledgable enough of the issues to be rallying people. If he gets a bunch of punks to vote, that's great. My biggest beef with the site is that it doesn't even have links to the candidates' web pages. I'm willing to bet a lot of punks would like Clark (unless they're stuck on the fact that he's a four star general), Edwards, or Kucinich.
Someone (January 17, 2004)
You're all a bunch of dumbasses... My problem with Fat Mike isn't that he's a bit left of center, it's that he isn't left enough. As long as dems and pubs control this country, nothing's gonna change. And the punks who love the troops and ritual slaughter of masses of innocent people and think that Bush is great and Reagan was cool and that Bush won the election, etc.: S.O.D. OFF! But I doubt you listen to real punk, as very few bands (outside the idiotic skinhead shit) support the intollerance that Bush and his cronies perpetrate. So go back to your meaningless bullshit styraphome cup lives... And stay out of political discussions unless you want to look even dumber. -BSD 6+ Replies

The only problem with people here who argue over politics is that whether they be far-right, far-left, or far-whatever--they're simply too far, period. I mean, you've got the guy over here who's screaming "the troops would piss on you little ungreatful pussies! they're saving your ass!" who wont admit that the u. S has been killing innocent men, women and children for years with their bombs and sanctions. And then you've got the other guy stating in bold font that "america is just a mass murderer. ", who can't admit that america is actually a beautiful place to live in, and contrary to classic, exaggerated extreme leftist comparison-habits--bush is not an equivalent to adolf hitler. It's the same fuckin' arguement between the same fuckin' people every time a political article is posted here. I'm suprised you have yet to notice it. All this Fat Mike Bitch is trying to do is get a bunch of impressionable kids to do his "bidding," vote his way. i've noticecd that quite a few of you said that bush's tax cuts only benefit the rich. now here's a basic example of what his tax cut was:
one man making $100,000 a year gets $250 (we'll just say every single person gets $250) and another man making $30,000 a year gets $250 back. The rich man receives .25% of his pay back while the "poor" man receives .83% of his payback. How does that benefit the rich?
Also some people have taxes taking out during the year but when it comes to tax time they get it all back because they didn't make enough. So these people end up not paying any taxes. They do not deserve a tax cut when they aren't paying taxes. For instance when i worked over the summer they took out taxes but i ended up getting it all back because i didn't make enough money, so why should i deserve a tax cut?

Some of you guys have no idea. I mean i'm from australia and i know more about how bush is fucking you over then you do yourself. Bush is only went to iraq for the oil contracts and to get saddam back for putting a hit out on his daddy. Think about how much it costs to rebuild a country and then look at who's got the contract to rebuild it. All of bush's sidekicks. (which were all daddy mates in the first place). Fat mike knows what he's talking about cause he's done the reseach (like michael moore) cause he's got the time to. Osama planned 9/11 and the first thing bush did was fly out all osama's family out of the u. S on a private jet. Everyone on the planes were saudi arabians and bush has not even investigated them cause he's mates with them. Then he has the nerve to create a faulse link between saddam and bin laddin.
