NOFX is "getting off the bench" to do interviews in support of Punk
Voter. As part of their media blitz they'll be appearing in and on the cover of Alternative Press this month. Video rental giant Blockbuster is refusing to carry the issue because they find the cover offensive. On the cover NOFX mimicked the Dixie Chicks' infamous Entertainment Weekly cover " to show their support and props to the ladies." The original is viewable here, the NOFX one can be seen here.

NOFX is one of, if not THE, most important bands of recent times, if you ask me. Can't wait to read that AP. Peace. 10+ Replies

Y'know, it really doesn't matter what Blockbuster thinks. It has become such an irrelivant company that Viacom can't GIVE it away, they're gonna have to spin it off. Also, that cover is going to be hilariously disgusting, I'm dreading and looking forward to it.

Two things A) I don't like NOFX, but this goes beyond that. If they really want to make as serious statement, why is Fat Mike the only one with serious stuff on his body? I mean, couldn't it be taken as a joke? Just like everyone next to him. "Nofx sluts" I mean really, that's not a statement, it's a circus. B) Also, what do you think conservativepunk.com would do if they had a magazine, dress up as conservantly as they could! haha. Just messing. By the way, these guys should have had the balls to show some hair. 7+ Replies

With all of the homophobia out there from Bush and others lately, I am surpised four naked men on a magazine cover is being sold by anyone, let alone Blockbuster. 6+ Replies

I dont think it has anything to do with punkvoter thing. Prolly has to do with the fact that it says "Slut" the one guys leg. Get your heads out of your asses.

Fat Mike may not be the most intelligent man in the world, let alone punk rock, but he is moving in the right direction.
The country is currently controlled by Republicans and Democrats who like to play god. People in control always like to play god... it has always been like that ya know, but now its starting to change, well... it has been changing, there have been great men like Jesus and MLK... Now there are many movements not just in punk, but everywhere to organize voters so a fair and freedom-loving group can be in control of the American Government.
This doesn't mean John Kerry, I mean there is Ralph Nadar and Dennis Kusinich, but the change that is bound to happen will take a long time. So I agree that we must start with Kerry now, and eventuall progress, and I think that is what Fat Mike and many others have in mind. We all know that the Democrats try to stan show rest of comment 10+ Replies

I guess they are the cover of the next AMP Magazine as well. I'm sure that will be a much better, much more in detail interview. Anybody notice how the drummer crossed his eyes making fun of the cross-eyed dixie chick? That's funny as hell. 4+ Replies

Even though everyone has made it clear already, I would like to emphasize a couple of points. First of all Blockbuster is probably the worst movie rental chain in recent history, thus it doesn't suprise me they refuse to sell this copy of AP. Second the cover is absolutely hilarious. Third is my take on NOFX. I honestly believe everyone grows out of them, and if you didn't then thats fine too. They are a great band at what they do, but have little to no talent compared to a Bad Religion or Fugazi. No one told me to take NOFX seriously so I didn't. -intheshapeofawineglass 6+ Replies

I love how everyone on this site hates bands that say things. That rules.
Someone (February 24, 2004)
what do you think went on in the blockbuster headquarters when they were discussing this? Probably went something like this... "oh my god this is horrible, we HAVE to do something about it. as blockbuster we have a responsibility to all the married couples who come to us to rent movies for friday night to not carry a magazine they've never heard of. its the only right thing to do" with that amazing powerhouse Blockbuster against them NOFX might as well just give up, there's no point in even trying. 2+ Replies

Is anyone keeping tabs, because every NOFX post seems to conjure up the most replies...and the widest range of dipshits, purists, scholars and meatheads. 1+ Reply

i remember hearing or reading a few years ago that blockbuster is owned by a conserative christian group or person and that they do or at least used to have a say in movies and wouldn't allow in movies and sometimes studios would have them preview a movie before it was even in the theaters so they could remove the "objectional content" they also rarely stocked things like directors cuts or in thier music store i remember them not having any artists with a pa sticker on them. this may have something to do with the objection to the mag, i guess naked men hanging out together makes jesus cry or something, but naked women make him smile ;) 1+ Reply

the fact that every nofx post gets the wingnuts riled up more and more is great. i think nofx is like.. they've reached that status in the punk scene. it's kinda like liking the beatles or pink floyd if you are a hippie. everyone wants to tell you that there is "so much better stuff out there". if that makes any sense.
Someone (February 25, 2004)
Wasn't those cornfed Dixie Chicks on the cover offensive enough? Thank God for airbrushing, right? That blonde needs to lay off the Twinkies. Fuck the Dixie Chicks! They're self-loathing americans, plus their music sucks! Praise to NOFX! 3+ Replies
Someone (February 25, 2004)
That's just wrong. I wouldn't even carry the magazine because it would probably scare away potential customers. Geez. The one guy looks like fuckin Davey Havok. That's no way to get business.
Someone (February 25, 2004)
Fuck every 15 year old that talks shit on NOFX. Fuck you man, go kill yourself. I'm not a teenager, but I was when Punk in Drublic and Two Heebs came out, and let me tell you, NOFX will always have a place in my heart. Hey, I also like Lagwagon, NUFAN, Bad Religion, and a whole slew of other bands that the kids these days like to dismiss, because they meant something to me when I was their age. Of all those bands, NOFX is still putting out decent music too. War on Errorism is criticized for being political? Wow, thats such a problem with punk music these days, not enough bitching about ex girlfreinds and too much political lyrics (not to mention how a certain type of silly humor is just fucking everywhere, not enough people are taking their shitty bands serious enough these days). I'm rambling, but NOFX has put in there dues, havn't sold out (whatever that means) show rest of comment 10+ Replies

HA Ha your country must suck considering the two main parties are so right wing. YOur democrats are the equivalent of our conservatives and your republicans are the equivalent of our neo nazi party. Though parties that right wing dont get anywhere these days. Must be American thing, well what do you expect from a country that executes children and takes every oppurtunity to take away peoples human rights. Oh well, either way your voting for a corporate sponsored tool. 2+ Replies
