MTV News is reporting that Germs biopic What We Do Is Secret has run into trouble. Their story didn't go into details further than "Put a fork in the production of "What We Do Is Secret," the flick about the life of Darby Crash and the Germs... The fate of the film - and its distribution - remains in limbo"
The film, directed by Rodger Grossman, was to star Shane West as Darby Crash, Bijou Phillips as Lorna Doom, Lukas Haas as Don Bolles, and Victor Rasuk as Pat Smear. News (46 comments)

Do you think Pat Smear would drink a Pabst beer while his woman (?) was getting a pap smear? 1+ Reply

...Shane West as Darby Crash? Cancel the entire film. Leave poor Darby and the Germs alone, forever. 2+ Replies

talk about fucking conflicted... i'd hate for shane west (costarred with mandy moore for gods sake) to portray one of punks most enigmatic characters... however, i recently read "Lexicon Devil: the fast times and short life of darby crash and the germs" and it was fucking incredible... is this gonna be a major motion picture? or an indie film?!... i want this movie to be made, but i dont want it to suck a donkey dick.

The Germs story could easily make a great movie, but the thing is that this is Hollywood trying to cash in on a trend, not make a great film. "What We Do Is Secret"? They just looked at the first song off of GI. It sounds really fucking lazy, potentially leading to being "the Doors" of my generation. 3+ Replies

I'd be willing to donate $5 for this movie. I want to see the footage that Pat, Don, and Lorna shot.

there was a band called Free in England in the late 60s early 70s. they produced the hit "Alright Now". - everyone knows that tune. Their singer, Paul Rodgers, went on to form Bad Company. This story, however, reminds me of them. Their guitarist, Paul Kossof, was phenomenal, yet he suffered with a heavy heroin habit. He ruined shows and whole tours, the band eventually broke up because they became so dysfunctional. Kossof died from a heroin-induced heart attack in 1976. In his autopsy theu found zit-like spots of puss on the tissue surface of his heart. Drugs destroy music. download the songs "Mr. Big, fire and water, my brother Jake and Wishing Well" to see how amazing Free were. If he hadn't have died they would have been huge. RIP Koss Let's discuss free folks. 1+ Reply

Dude, the Germs were possibly one of the worst bands EVER and Darby Crash among the most useless humans ever. Yet punk rock worships them...that says a lot for the genre... - Samuel 5+ Replies

After looking names up, I must say...they all look the parts...and Shane West sort of looks like Darby. But with his name attached, it could end up being a big movie...if it didn't, I would be for it.

"Ching Ching Ching" that's the sound Hollywood is hearing right now....is there anything they won't rape and remove all dignity from? It's even funnier that MTV posted this shit....2 years ago this news would have never been there....but with this sudden fake ass "punk" trend in motion everybody's trying to get a peice of a history that they had NO part of. I doubt Darby was the most intelligent human being...but his lyrics were definitely focused and delivered with extreme intensity...which was pretty much the point. I would rather see Darby Crash tumble around onstage screaming and yelling than seeing the best emo/pop punk or alternative radio band playing today...actually...I'd rather see the Germs play than the MAJORITY of bands playing right now. Why? The key is intensity and violence......the Germs could create the true sound of desperation, confusion and disgust...and capturing a feeli show rest of comment 2+ Replies

All i have to say is that this movie...although being a nice tribute to an awesome person.with shane west as the lead who probably doesnt know shit about darby crash or the punk scene at all for that matter is a bit disgraceful guys.It will doubtlessly be yet another slc punk where you all make the punks come off as a bunch of stupid idiots who run around and break shit and do drugs and die young just to make a name for themselves.dont get me wrong.i love darby crash....i just dont appreciate being misinterpreted based on him and his glam rock lifestyle.but whatever...make the movie.im sure it will be a great success and ill waste 7 dollars to go see how it turned out.just cuz id love to see what actually will happen here. 1+ Reply
