On June 29th BYO Records will release Sex Objects, the new record from Seattle's The Briefs. To celebrate we're throwing a huge draw with prizes from Factory 13 Skateboards, Dogpile Clothing, Vision Streetwear and Black Label. You can view an e-card for the upcoming record here.

To Enter, send the requested information to CONTEST CLOSED. In the email include your NAME, MAILING ADDRESS, SHOE SIZE, GENDER, CLOTHING SIZES. Since there's some clothing size info involved, we'll confirm them with the winner before shipping the prizes.
By submitting your entry to us, you agree to provide your email address to BYO Records for their monthly mailing. Punknews.org will only contact you if you win.

I love how the Briefs try to wear all of these bondage pants and duct tape and one of the guys used to be in Green Apple Quickstep! Plus, they totally fucked their previous indie label Dirtnap by allowing BYO to reissue records that were STILL IN PRINT! That's pretty punk guys, keep up the mediocre tunes.

Sorry, no Dirtnap connection. I just find it ironic that the band refuses to admit they were once in an alterna schlock band like GAQS. It's fake, it's phony. They already agreed to a deal with their record company and then fucked them over for no reason. If that's punk to you then step right up, I think it's pathetic and shows the bands true colors. They were fucking signed to Interscope for gods sake. They deserve to fail.

Allright guy....we dont need to admit to anything, we have always been up front if anybody askes..yeah we were sighned to Interscope and we used all there money to tour and record, it was great to be able to go to every town in the US and still be able to pay bills back at home, I guess thats not very "punk" but who the fuck cares.we are the same band we were when we started ..do the Briefs sound anything like GAQS? I used to work at a bank, I was a corprate slave, again not very "punk"...Your putting way too much time into everything else but what we play, its cool if you dont like the band...just admit it and go listen to something else...Dirtnap...welll you have no clue to all the details, if your really concerned about what REALLY is going on that give me a call and Ill fill you in, because this will make you life so much better.

Hello Brief, Hope the touring is going well. You guys are machines. Got a copy of the new record and it is very good. Have fun...Falcon is waiting. (He made us some kick ass Mexican food....you really can't find that stuff over there.) PS It's pretty lame that you're forced into writing this sort of stuff. Steve and Dan started that band.They wre not so punk-but what is punk? So what! GAQS even toured with X for 2 months. John Doe and Exene liked them-I guesse their not so punk now are they-They were also on majors-in fact-the man who signed GAQS was the same guy who signed X. There first record was produced by Daniel Ray-Known as the fifth Ramone. When I think about all my favorite bands from the 77 era- I come to realize that most were on majors-Go look at your old records and see what labels they were on. Steve and Dan have played in bands together for 15 years-They both as well as the other briefs quit jobs where they made a lot more money than they do now with this band called the briefs. As far as Dirtnap goes-the briefs were never signed with dirtnap-Ken Wisconsin is a great person as well as a good friend with the band-But the briefs payed for everything they ever recorded with their own dough. Dirtnap is a kick-ass label and will continue to be.Fake-Phony- maybe doing what you want to do in life is fake and phony-Maybe putting down others is a way to make yourself feel better. What do you do? What bands have you been in? What do you do for a living? Seems to me that all this time your spending on the computer is also not so punk.Maybe one day you'll smash your head into the monitor.That would be punk now wouldn't it?

'90's alternarock band (they never got really big, but did manage to tour with Fishbone, I recall that I found their set, amusing but pretty basic!

green apple quickstep's an alright band (not punk by any means) but since when is there a law you can't be into more than one type of music? maybne their musical tastes and sense of style changed? that's part of growing as a person... it happens sometimes!!!

Out of curiosity, how is it you're so sure that Dirtnap got screwed? Granted, I hadn't heard anything about BYO reissuing the first two records...is there a link to this info or something? Secondly, what makes you think that this reissuing wasn't in conjunction with Dirtnap? Dirtnap and the Briefs surely had a contract of some sort for these records. (How un-punk rock! *sarcasm*) Ken is probably getting a percentage of the reissue if it is happening....AND it brings even more attention to Dirtnap. Ken is a good guy...as are the Briefs. They've known eachother for a long time and would be very surprised to see some screwing going on. If you don't like their music, that's fine. But, the rest of it is really no ones business but theirs.

Facts: BYO had to be told by Dirtnap that the Briefs records were indeed still in print' The Briefs never informed Dirtnap they were taking their records elsewhere There wasn't a contract with Dirtnap, it was a verbal agreement at best No money is going to Dirtnap for these reissues.

I saw these guys in TN and AR this past week as I was familiar with their music but had never seen them and first off they where fuckin' phenomenal. They blew me away and I can tell you that they made a bunch of fans in both those areas that had never known about them before. I was not aware that anyone in The Briefs had anything to do with Green Apple Quckstep. But so what I happen to like GAQS. When you meet someone for the first time do you hand them your resume so they can check out where you worked and run you up against the national punk cred database. "Hmmm, I see you did some time at McDonalds well you see this is a vegan crusty anarcho show so well you’re not welcome. But there is a beer swilling steak eating OI! show down the block if you would like to check that out". Did they screw the label I don't know and really unless it has some direct e

In my 30 years I have learned but a few things and one of them is there are two sides to every story. I wouldn't ask them of that business any more then I expect a total stranger to come up and ask me if I paid my phone bill this month and then pass judgment on me for my answer. I never understood this whole label screws band / band screws label thing. If a band and/or label screw one another especially with the existence of the Internet my ass would be all over it if I was said band or label broadcasting the fact that they are scumbags but these "stories" always seem to travel by word of mouth and hardly ever directly to the public by said screwy. As far as schlock well if meter count of schlockness constitutes "punkness" then you better write off the Pistols, NY Dolls, Iggy & The Stooges, The Misfits and even to some extent the Ramones (for being so non schlock they are schlock). By the way there is something that is mentioned on one the posts “The Briefs never informed Dirtnap they were taking their records elsewhere “ The operative word there is “their”. It is their music when it all comes down to it and as long as they have fulfilled all agreements they had what is wrong with what they may do? Let it go man you will enjoy life so much better take it from someone who used to do the same crap.
