About:

Alternative Tentacles emerged in June of 1979 as the label name on Dead Kennedys' self-produced debut single California Uber Alles. The name lived on as a European label promoting singles from then-unknown North American bands like D.O.A., Bad Brains, Black Flag, Flipper, TSOL, Voice Farm and the Let Them Eat Jellybeans compilation. As attention in the US underground grew Alternative Tentacles went domestic with releases from Dead Kennedys, frontman (and label head) Jello Biafra, Butthole Surfers, D.O.A., 7 Seconds, NoMeansNo and others. The label later saw releases from street singer Wesley Willis, incarcerated journalist Mumia Abu Jamal and punk band Fleshies. In 2002 Alternative Tentacles moved from San Francisco to Emeryville California and has thrived as a label and mailorder company offering counterculture music and literature.

Jello Biafra rips into the RIAA; draws comparisons to mafia, extortion
Jello Biafra recently spoke to Norway's Aftenposten and unleashed some serious hate against music industry trade lobby, RIAA. He does express some concern about the problem of file sharing with regards to newer bands however: I have two different opinions on file-sharing” says Biafra, drawing a metaphorical line in the sand - with good (small labels) on one side, and bad (big labels) on the other. You may take from the big labels, because the only thing they do…

Help Akimbo figure out "Navigating the Bronze"
Alternative Tentacles is throwing a contest in celebration of Akimbo's new full length Navigating the Bronze. Here's the scoop: "Dude, I totally navigated the bronze last night!" What does that sentence mean to you? This elusive phrase has not been explicitly defined by Akimbo, the band who created this mysterious album title. Many theories have been informally offered, none to our satisfaction. However, we want to make "Navigating the…
Leftover Crack denied entry into Canada
Leftover Crack who were set to play a number of Canadian dates this week were turned away by Canadian immigration authorities. Frontman Stza Crack addressed the incident on the band's website saying Most of us tried almost as hard as we could to play for you folks up there and after a 20 hour round trip in a van I am writing this to say a big Fuck You to the Canadian Immigration Assholes. I hate them almost .0000000000001% as much as the U.S. Boder Patrol aka La Migra, but as far as I know, I cannot compare the Canadians to the Scum that slimes…
