Social Distortion. What can I really say that hasnt been said a million times before? Well, I think that this band is vastly overrated, but sometimes their songs can be pretty good. This album is their worst, hands down, because nothing on this album resembles a punk song, just long drawn out country rock songs. I never really considered Social Distortion a punk band anyway, just a country band with some punk and rock influences. whats wrong with a liite country with punk?just straight punk gets boring like the pistols or ramones.You've gotta have a litte ska,raggae,contry,rockabilly or something else besides just punk blended in your music First of all, I'd like to speak on my own defense by pointing out that not all teenagers (I'm 16) are dumbasses that know nothing about music or the roots of a band such as Social D. This is as pure punk as it comes. Just because it doesn't sound like shit and the guitars don't play nothing but power chords doesn't mean it isn't. This is a great album and a great progression on the style of their self-titled album, and anyone who thinks otherwise obviously needs to get a little more familiarity with what punk really is. I own 4 Social D. records, and this is easily one of my favorites! Awesome album, awesome review!! Easiestly the stupidest thing I have ever read, I am now dumber for having read it. i laughed my ass off reading this review. obviously a joke. you guys need to chill. you can't possibly insult social d that bad and not believe it wasn't a joke. DO you fucking know anything about Social D? This is their best album and not only is it a great punk album its a great fucking rock and roll album. Go eat a dick dick eater. Social Distortion is one of the greatest bands around. Just because the songs don't sound punk doesn't mean they aren't a punk band. Try listening to Mainliner and telling my Social Distortion isn't a punk band. Mike Ness is a great song writter. Another example, On London Calling by the Clash, "Rudy Can't Fail" isn't a punk song but who's gonna tell me the Clash aren't a punk band. It takes a lot of guts to be able to move on from a straight punk formula and I respect Mike Ness a lot. Social Distortion is a GREAT band, one of my favorites, i'd describe em as a mixture of punk rock with rock'n'roll (including blues and country) influences. Mike Ness is pure genius he's one of my favorite lyricists, and I think this is their best album. i love this album SOCIAL D OVERRATED? Social D NEVER claimed to be a punk band, they're just a rock band who mix all sorts of rock music, be it punk or country. They're one of the greatest bands ever, and "Somewhere..." is one of their best albums. I must agree with the reviewer that you all should pick up "Live at the Roxy" for the true Social D experience. Anyone who says Social D is 'not punk' better put down his hot topic frequent buyer card and wake up and smell the PBR. Mike ness and Social D were rewriting punk rock history when this reviewer was still listeingin to his fisher price record player. These guys have been doing it for 20 years or so, and anyone who thinks they are 'overrated' needs a smack upside the head. Joe_Mamma, you're review was so inspiring that I went out and picked this up on the weekend. Fantastic record, easily the most range Social D's shown. Thanks for the great review of a great record... I really enjoyed this album. Bye Bye Baby is one of my favourite Social Distortion songs, but it is by no means a one album track. It's not bad, it's just different, which is most definitely a good thing. This is the most retarded album review I have ever read in my life. This album, along with all of their others (excluding Prison Bound, whih is merely pretty good) is a fucking masterpeice and schools all the NFG's and Blinks everytime I hear it. Go to the mall and pick up the new SUM 41 and stay out of my way, kiddo... Just a note, if anyone gets a chance,i picked up the latest issue of the big takeover magazine with noneother than social distortion on the cover and a great article on the inside. Mike not only talks about the new cd,but life with dennis and how coming back from his solo stuff has got him more stoked than ever to be back with the boys. Check it out-oldpunker- socail d gets 3 stars and NFG gets 9 stars. the reviewers need to be lynched. so first he makes fucking retarded comments on every thread about ska being gay, then he DOESN'T comment on the fucking reel big fish album, then he writes this completely ignorant review of one of the greatest, and most innovative punk rock groups. ever. i knew this after i first listened to them on Live at the Roxy. I knew this was a great and important band, and while Mike Ness complains that punk rock is too constrictive, and punks call out "sell out!" whenever he tries to do something different, i think it's great that he tries to broaded his wings. to me, branching out into new territory beyond fast beats and loud guitars, is as "punk" as the fucking Clash. god bless Mike Ness and Social D. I laughed my ass off when i read this review. He/She is obviously a very young individual who's "punk" lifestyle began two years ago when he heardd "Aliens" by Pennywise on the stinkin radio!! Social D overrated? never!!! they have earned all the praise they have ever gotten. so this album doesnt sound all fast and "punkish" big fuckin deal it doesnt mean it sucks. its still a fuckin good ass album. it is for people who like good music. this band got me into punk music and they fuckin rule! This is one of the worst reviews I have ever read? You don't like it because it's not a punk album? If you don't like it, fine, but give a legitimate reason, not "it's not punk." I think that's pretty pathetic if you don't like something just because it's not punk. Did you fail to notice the amazing song writing, the powerful vocals, and the great music? If you're really narrow minded about what you consider "punk," then this album is not for you. If you like good music, then I think you would like this album, 'cause Mike Ness is one of the best song writers in the world today. And the fact that he plays the music that he likes instead of what the punk scene wants, is much more "punk" than anything the latest recycled punk trash like Anti-Flag will ever put out. this album is great... It's pretty good and so is White Light. I think JOE MOMMA just wrote this to piss people off on purpose. If he, or anyone else, really thinks this is a bad album, well, nevermind. This album is a perfect 10. Fucking kids. i love social D, but this is my least favorite record from them... still fucking great though This has to be one of the worst reviews I've ever read. Having been around in the 80's scene (and no, I'm not trying to play the "seniority card" here), I'd have to say that this was actually one of Social D's masterpieces. You want a crappy social D album? Try white light. In this album, social d broke what was expected, mike ness actually showed an almost compassionate side, and some of the bands best tracks appeared including born to lose and king of fools, as well as a great cover of Making Believe. Sure, it isn't mommy's little monster...but social distortion aren't 18 anymore...and neither am I. This is one of my favorite albums....ever. The sound on this album may not be "punk", but the content sure is. |
