I know it's not very punk to review an album with such an abundant radio-play history, but this album is important. "Ignition" laid down the trend, and "Smash" solidified the mould. Like it or not, Offspring brought the So. Cal. punk scene to the world, along with that near swear word - Green Day. They opened the door so kids around the world could climb into Bad Religion and NOFX without having to stumble across it by fluke. You can thank "Smash" for the punk section in your local record store... and you could also just listen to it, and enjoy the simple, straight-ahead, punk-rock mastery of it.

5/5 stars... After all this WAS the album that led me to punk music.

Oh, my world. It is ok

What near swear word - Green Day?

Fuck your lame-ass review of this amazing album, and your dissing Green Day.....

Selling out, selling out....I dont care much abt it as long as the music and the lyrics are great, i dont give a shit....

"feel old and quit, be ashamed for everything released after Smash...."

actually Ixnay was pretty cool, but then americana was just horrible

Really awesome album...and although I'm the only one to say it in here...they're still doing awesome. Splinter isn't my favorite or anything...but they're still who they are.

sydslovebuzz (September 20, 2004)

its a good album, not my favorite but it feels like it is when im listening to it. i forget about it here and there. but when i do listen to its good stuff.

ThunderStruck (June 17, 2004)

smash it up! what are you waitin' for...?

Analog_Boy (September 5, 2003)

This is one of my firsts...

I love this fucking alblum. Although Offspring are still sellouts. Fuck em.

FuckArmageddon77 (March 13, 2003)

Too bad they haven't done anything good since...

M4CH1N3 (January 31, 2003)

That's as good as mainstream music gets. What they did afterwards is the definition of 'selling out' itself.

M4CH1N3 (December 3, 2002)

Not a great record, but quite good for its time. A few songs on this deserve to be called punk. Then this band went downhill all the way

FAKESMILE (January 9, 2002)

This record deserves a lot of credit for not disgracing punk and still make loads of people listen to the more "underground", I'd better say "not mainstream" punk. Unlike the Blinks, sums and other crappy fuckers.

5 years ago I would say: "Hail to The Offspring", now I'd like to say: Thank you Offspring, but feel old and quit, be ashamed for everything released after Smash....

They really were the kings of cartoon-punk. Used to love 'em, but now i'd just like to kill 'em. The suck big time! Great memories though!

Great CD. Its a real shame that Offspring now sound crappy.

Brings memories
