I really wanted to like this album. Bratmobile, in part, are responsible for creating a veritable revolution in the punk scene. And what was this revolution called? Riot grrl. Along with DC based Bikini Kill, Bratmobile helped create a national touring network and a zine distribution network which showcased feminist bands and literature. Because of Bratmobile’s efforts, sexism in the scene was somewhat reduced, and as a result, girls were actually able to see and participate in concerts. Or so I hear. I was around nine during Bratmobile’s heyday and, a boy. But, I can listen to the music now, and it is, quite simply, boring. Please login or register to post comments. Male 'punks' were always normally pretty cool and niceto female 'punks'. Because they have boobs. I'm quite positive female participation in the punk "scene" was accepted and encouraged by most well before the emergence of Bikini Kill and Bratmobile, what with all the female manned (no pun intend bands) bands (X, Blatz, X Ray Specs, etc.) that were around and playing to pretty large and enthusiastic audiences before the whole Riot Girl thing. It's not as if there was some fervent facist anti-womanism going around in the 70's and 80's that bands like B. Mobile came along and finally heroically destroyed. Male 'punks' were always normally pretty cool and niceto female 'punks'. Because they have boobs. I saw this band live and wasn't impressed. Also I know you're trying to be feminist but if you're not going to shave your armpits don't wear shirts that show off your long, gross hair. Thanks. |
