It is a rare occasion to walk into the metro for a show with absolutely no expectations. Prior to the show last Friday, (9/27/02) all I knew about any of the bands I was seeing was that Sparta contained former members of the band At the Drive-In. The least I can say about my concert experience was that I was amazed. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
personally its my favorite thing in the world when a band makes the same cd a half a dozen times just so they can justify using the same name. The Clash on Sandinista sounded ZERO like they did on self-titled, should they have changed their name? Black Flag on In My Head sounded ZERO on the early EPs, should they have changed their name? Bands should change, props to Cave In for having the guts to do it in a scene that scemes terrified of change. Drastic change is better than making the same album over and over to appease a target audience. And they should damn well keep their name so that they can keep everything they worked so hard to get.. Like I said, maybe they thought people would support them so long as they continued to make good music, which they do. As for Pink Floyd, sorry pal, but you're missing out on some great music. And as for them playing a mix of both, it would sound weird to me for them to be playing both. The metal songs would just sound out of place. And like I said before, Steven will lose his voice if he keeps screaming. Hamish, Thursday and Boy Sets Fire? Excuse me while I vomit the contents of my empty stomach. i didn't go to this show, but would all you idiots stop giving sparta shit cuz they original members from at the drive-in? Sparta fuckin rules, and they're album is amazing. I say fuck the haters for being pissed about at the drive-in's break up. Bitches. these bands were better the first time I heard them, when they were called at the drive-in, radiohead, and hot water music It's a great band, too - think the missing link between Thursday and Boy Sets Fire. www.preachergonetotexas.com. Preacher: Gone To Texas is a good book. I chose Dillinger Four/Toys That Kill/Hot Carl/Rivethead/Preacher Gone To Texas/Exercise in Rock Island, instead. there sure were a lot of shows that night. i chose the ghost, logans loss and duvall this is why im starting to hate all message boards Why would he change the name of the band? There were no line-up changes between Until You Heart Stops and Jupiter (or did they changes bassists? I forget, either way, 1 member change doesn't mean too much). Why should they throw away something they worked so hard to establish? I guess they assumed that people would be open-minded enough to support them even if they changed their sound (so long as it was still good music). I guess they were wrong, shows how narrow minded most of their old fans are. Hardcore or bad pink floyd..i dont give a shit. fucking cave-in offeres more to there listeners than any band out there. Hey Hamish.... Yeah, you sure are right guy below me, Cave In changed their sound *just* so they could play with Sparta and SBB. Not because Steven Brodsky found out he was going to lose his voice if he kept screaming. Not because he wanted to play music other than metal. It was really because he wanted to tour with Sparta and SBB. You sure are smart. "Bad Pink Floyd?" Maybe you need to listen to that shit again. It has more depth and substance than just about any band playing today. Who cares if they stopped playing metal? Look, I like the metal stuff too, but better a band change their sound and play what they want to play than making the same record over and over again so that they don't piss of "scenesters." ok.. here's the real problem... This review sucked, get a personality.. Trying doing some homework on the bands. Sparta is good, SBB is great (listen to collections), Cave-in Blows. If I want pink floyd crap I'll listen to pink floyd. Cave-in is for white cap jocks trying to get into punk rock. College crap. to be honest, i like all three of these bands and would've been glad to be at this show just at the mention of their names together, but let's be honest, and get to the real point, this was a sorry ass excuse for a review... i mean, no offense to the reviewer or anything, it just sucked, he needs to work on his review skills "Sparta gets dreamwork records to kill for them. " Small Brown Bike's "Dead Reckoning" is the definition of mediocre Small Brown Bike blows Cave-In out of the fucking water. I saw Cave-In last year and thought they were nothing more than noise, most overrated band this side of Midtown. My score is for Small Brown Bike, fuck the rest. Listen to Sparta's Wiretap Scars, then listen to Cave-in's Jupitar. Tell me who the better band is. The answer:cave in. All I gotta say is: Glad to hear this was a good show. There were like 4 pretty big shows this day. Local H and Lucky Boys (ewww) at UIC, Catch 22 and Mest (ewww) at HOB, Sparta (yay!) and Cave-In (yay!) at the Metro, and The Stereo (whooo!) at the fireside. I chose the fireside show which had less than 150 people there. It rocked mucho. But if the stereo wasn't playing that night i'd have seen Sparta yo. To argue which bands should've headlined is ridiculous. All 3 bands are awesome (especially SBB) but the truth is, Sparta is bigger because of their name and thier label. I'm not at all surprised at the order. It was one of the best shows @ the Metro in a long time! "Sparta gets dreamwork records to kill for them. Sparta headlined over Cave In? Both of these bands played after Small Brown Bike? Lame. SBB destroys both of those wack bands. (Yeah, I said wack. I'm down with the lingo of the streets. Word.) Cave In may be good but they're still wankers. God I wish I could see Cave In again. They need to get their asses out to norcal. I think small brown bike shouted cause the vocals aren't always sung. Were you confused? Did you think he was shouting because he had a bad day? I agree with the other guy,Cave-In is an amazing band. Please junior, go back to listening to your Taking Back Sunday cd.. Sparta headlined over Cave-In? What has this world come to...For shame. No bullshit? Cave In? They're the biggest wankers this side of Oasis. The band reeks of bullshit. |
