Well, the show was slated to begin at eight o’clock. I arrived around 6:45PM and to my surprise they were letting kids in to beat the cold. I was one of the first to enter so I planted my self right on the gate upfront. Yes you heard me correct there was a gate in front creating a gap between the stage that was filled with some crazy meat-headed security guards. Oh well at least I was close, and enough about me, onto the show. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
drinking beer, smoking, getting fat, never working out, and getting stomach rolls is boring. straight edge is so boring Don't be an ignorant bastard. Not all straightedge people are the hardliners who beat the living shit out of anyone who doesn't agree with them. There are many a straightede person (myself included) that don't participate in the hating of others just because they don't happen to practice this life style. And on a completely seperate note, Glassjaw blows out the anal cavity, I haven't heard a worse band sine...well...ever... Blood Brothers sound like they might be ok....I really like how they are spazzed out. My favorite kinds of bands are the ones where the singers just reak out and get into screaming fits. So it sounds ok on my part.....now i need to check out the lyrics to see if it nails me. sporadic means occaisional and sudden, so i guess the Blood Brothers weren't very active. Unless of course you meant to say Frenetic or frenzied. Sorry, im just bored and felt like saying that. Ok review. This was one of the worst shows i've ever been to. Was in pittsburgh Pa last thursday. I saw glassjaw, American Nightmare, Coheed and Camberia, and the Blood brothers. For one blood brothers was one of the gayest singers i've ever seen. Really hes GAY. Really sucky band. Next was Coheed and Camberia... Well what can i say. there awesome for the 5th show i've seen them this year. Then came American "nothing" the pit sucks will all the gay glassjaw fans there but the hardcore kids soon showed everyone who was boss and fucked that shit up. Good show by them. Crazy!!!! then came on of the suckiest bands i've ever seen. Glassjaw. wow there sloppy. their not even Hardcore, so i wont even go into the whole sXe shit with them cause there nothing.... Straight edge wasn't meant to be anything but a term.......unfortuanately some ignorant people use it as ANOTHER excuse to hate other people. I personally live a straight edge style life (I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't eat beef), but only because I want to make myself the healthiest most fit thin i can be.....not because i want to hurt other people. Ian MacKaye coined the term, but is ashamed of the "movemnet"....it's just like a religious or racist group, in that it hates people not like them....and I'm not into hating nayone except the people who fuck with me. So sXe can be good or bad depending on how you interpret it. If you wanna drink fine, if you wanna smoke fine....hell, I'm pro- drug legalization because it would cause less deaths due to over zealous pigs and drug cartels....if it's legal then the only people who will be harmed are the ones using it, and if they want to hurt themselves then let them. Anyway, my point is DO WHAT U WANT! Okay...yeah I'm the one that said "straight-edge" sounds stupid because what does it have to do with music? And when that kid said to that guy smoking "Hey, I thought you were straight-edge"....what's that all about? It sounds like a frickin cult to me. "Hey guys, help me out. What is this so called "stright-edge"? I don't know what it means to be "straight edge"....it sounds like a stupid thing...so I wanna know. Thanks." Hey guys, help me out. What is this so called "stright-edge"? I don't know what it means to be "straight edge"....it sounds like a stupid thing...so I wanna know. Thanks. american nothing should have headlined. the pit was fucking off the hook! i almost got knocked out by stagedivers and people flying off of the side railing. blood brothers were 90% norma jean and 10% hives... get rid of the hives look and dance steps and you got one hell of a hardcore band. lead singers who try to look pretty piss me off. oh yeah, fuck all you glassjaw haters!!!! darryl and the boys are class acts, get off their backs. it's not like they sold out like hatebreed. Hey saw this show in Cleveland too. Shit American Nothing seriously tore shit up worse than anything that has come through Cleveland in ALONG time. I've never seen such a turnout for a hardcore band in our scene. Amazing. Oh yeah and BLOOD BROTHERS is seriously the perfect example of everything that sucks completely. Eat shit just saw the same show in cleveland two nights ago. too bad american nothing didn't go well there. they absolutely owned in cleveland. i haven't seen a pit like that since Every Time I DIe played the same stage. it was non stop kickboxing and stagediving. glassjaw did play ape dos mil when i saw them. To the guy who wrote about American NIGHTMARE and was thinking he was an expert on drugs, they're called American NOTHING now. They changed their name. man, the blood brothers sure do play with some shitty bands sometimes. What do you expect a singer to do during an instrumental? If they play like, say 14 songs, and one of them is an instrumental....if the guy works his ass of and does things inhumanly possible during the reugular songs, he's probably gonna rest during the instrumentals. I don't know if American Nothing(Nightmare) are that way I have never seen them. But even the best stage performers rest during the instrumentals. If he sunks DURING the songs then that's another story entirely. I like instrumentals, some of my favorite bands had tons of instrumentals. And usual the singers will either leave for a moment, play one of the instruments, or stand there and fuck with the crowd. that straightedge story is interesting... about the whole "x"'s on the hands i mean to the guy who asked about openhand... oh yea and as for mr. 'i know the traits of a cokehead' shut up beeyotch. coke isnt bad for you. ever think the govt. is lying on this one? not to sound cliched, but look that shit up. i'm a biopsych major and know through extensive literature that coke is not physically adictive, on mentally. theres no withdrawl. if that dorks stage presence sux now, its cuz he doesnt give a shit anymore. snnnnnnnnnoort! straight edge is latin for 'fucking stupid lifestyle' You people are so fucking pathetic at times. Get over the fact that Glassjaw is "almost" to MTV now. American Nightmare is amazing. Wes is not a coke head. Ive seen 8 times, and everytime they play, Wes has that fucked up look on his face. He almost scares me with his ranting...but they still rock. Blood Brothers rock live, but suck when ya hear em on disc. And Glassjaw, well Glassjaw just sucks. I knew former Guitarist Jeff Smith of GJ before they broke up and got big somehow . They sucked then, and they suck now. Youre almost to MTV guys..just a little longer straight edge wasn't meant to be anything more than two words in a song. Ian was just trying to show the importance of living healthy. I don't drink, i don't smoke.....but i dont call myself stragight edge. This "cult" bullshit is just as bad as a religion. So, in a sense, Minor Threat coined the phrase, but the stupid "group" shit was started by other people who missed the point. "why is there an 'x' in between the 's' and the 'e' in the abbreviation for straight edge? i just dont get it. oh well." what's the big fuss about coke, it's some pretty good shit why is there an 'x' in between the 's' and the 'e' in the abbreviation for straight edge? i just dont get it. oh well. Glassjaw rule. That's all I have to say about that. Fix of Coke? Are you an idiot? Its not heroin. Furthermore, licking his lips probably meant he had done some. Geez, get your facts right before you look like a moron. the reason American NIGHTMARE didn't seem like themselves is because Wes lost the emotion he used to have. He's a fucking coke head now. I saw them twice out here, in San Diego and in Orange County, both times they had an instrumental in the middle of their set, at the SD show, Wes just stood there at the front of the stage, with a really blank look on his face, and licking his gums(a common trait of somebody who is need of his or her next fix of coke). I'm sure they played this instrumental at your show, try and remember if you noticed this happen. Either way, I will always love American Nightmare. Unfortunately I missed the Hollywood date of this show...ours had Open Hand at it too (by the way, anybody outside of California heard of these guys yet? They've toured with Thursday...anyway, their new record on Trustkill comes out January, get it). So, do most venues over there not have barriers in front of the stage? I've grown very accustomed to it, as it's pretty common for a bigger place in LA to have one. And I've seen many, many AMAZING shows with this 'gap', so I don't see how not being able to climb on the stage dissipates the enjoyment factor. The reason American Nightmare (or Nothing...what a fucking stupid name change) seemed awkward was probably because they're opening for a band that has played Ozzfest and toured with the likes of the Deftones...they're not playing for their audience. But don't get me wrong, I'm not badmouthing Glassjaw with that comment, their new album is really good. As far as the sXe kid smoking, I know Raybeez used to smoke & claimed to be sXe, oh well he's dead anyway. Actually I do have a copy of The Blood Brothers new album. As do many of my friends. You aren't as special as you think you are buddy. I go the Rave all the time. The security guards are muscle-head assholes with something to prove. They feel worthless working security for bands they hate for shitty wages, so they take out their aggression on skinny punk rock kids. That being said, crowd surfing is stupid. If you want to crowd surf you should be kicked out. A lot of people want to get near the stage to watch a show. You should have to accept a decent amount of pushing and shoving, and the occasional inadvertant elbow, what you should NOT have to accept is getting kicked in the head from behind with no way to defend yourself or any warning it was coming. The no-crowd-surfing rule is a rule made The Rave, not by individual bouncers. They are trying to cover their own ass and protect people. The Blood Brothers own all. One of their singers is really spazzy, he reminds me of jello biafra...cool stuff. I'll admit, The Blood Brothers are really intense and crazy.....thats the kind of stuff i like. American Nothing is good, i like their new name. Shot the security....we need an all out, full scale crazy concert.....most are so controlled lately. It's like "oh...you can't do that", whatever happened to saying "fuck you, yes i can!"? I mean, sure, you might get beat up, but it's worth it. "I highly doubt that the security guards kicked the kids out of the show." Chicago show was good, with The Blood Brothers destroying everything in sight. They are the best band around right now, picking up right were bands like At The Drive In and Refused left off. Glassjaw was good, playing Ape Dos Mil, but the reviewer is right, their fans suck a lot and managed to make Glassjaw shitty live. I highly doubt that the security guards kicked the kids out of the show.. .other than that good review... i can so see the drive thru kids sitting around at a glassjaw show talking about how emotional they are and how much they want to die because not only are the emotional their life sucks and they are depressed. Anyway, all those bands kick a lot of ass. Blood Brothers especially... did Glassjaw perform Ape Dos Mil? Thats my personal favorite.-BostonMusicGuy |
