I know. The Used are not on the title of this review, and thats because they got sick and couldnt play Columbus the other night. I kinda wanted to see them, but I wasnt as crushed as some of the other people who were only there to see them.

Now, since Box Car only has 1 album, H20 (with 4 albums to their name) expanded their set to an hour. It was, needless to say, hilarious. After playing quite a few songs including H20 set standards like "Thicker Than Water" and the new song (which rules!) "All We Want", Toby decided he just wanted play "Name That Tune" for a little while, and hilarity ensued, as it quickly turned into a breakdance contest(Toby did also participate). Even though there were about 100 11 year old Advil Lavigne's there, Toby still brought the house down with the same energetic Punk/Hardcore they've always been known for, and took the time to meet and talk with everyone after the show, which is always really cool to see.

After quite a long (and rather pointless) wait, Box Car Racer finally took the stage, playing in almost complete darkness (save for a few roaming flashlights) for their first, instrumental song. They then went right into a rushed version of "All Systems Go". To tell the truth, I was kind of unimpressed at first, thinking "Tom just isnt the same without Mark standing next to him", but after a while, I got used to just Tom, as he busted out every song on their self titled album, and even 2 new songs. I'd have to say one of my favorite songs they played was Letters To God, because they changed the arrangments quite a bit, and jammed around a little.

THE HIGHLIGHT OF THEIR SET HOWEVER, was Box Car Racer's amazing punk cover of Barry Manilow's "Mandy". Although half the kids out in the crowd didnt know what it was, it was still an amazing song.

rob aston needs a sever beating for sucking up the transplants album worse than it would have been otherwise.

    Anonymous (November 25, 2002)

    the transplants suck ass...

    Anonymous (November 25, 2002)

Tom is punk because he had Tim Armstrong on the Boxcar Racer album.

    (and Armstrong is the shit)

    Anonymous (November 25, 2002)

tom can't be a punk and really never was one. The only person i like that has anything to do w/ tom is travis, b/c he is the most talented drummer i've heard. But, mark, can't play bass for shit and tom and his 2 note songs suck. Travis is someone that knows wut he's doin. but still, tom sux ass. Later

Damn right, Boxcar Racer are just a band that Tom can try and get some credibility back from the punk scene but he aint gettin shit. Once the Gimme's cover a song its done, they just do it too well. I agree that H20 suck as well, how can they turn their backs on the hardcore scene like that, the scene sticks together so much and for them to flip style like they did and basically tell fans to get fucked.

What a shit show, that show would have only been good to talk to the H20 guys and to tell Tom that he is an MTV man who needs to give up the attemp to be "punk" cause it cant happen anymore.

    Anonymous (November 25, 2002)

Nobody can cover "Mandy" like the Gimme Gimme's. So fuck Tom, he's not near as cool as Spike. And H20 sucks now, so go to hell. Their old shit was great. Now though...thumbs down.

Yes he's an idiot. Courtney love has always and will always look like a whore. She almost looks like someone dressing up as a hooker for halloween, ya know, over doing it.

    WussEmoRock (November 24, 2002)

to the guy below me, can you really not figure out what he was trying to say? He didn't mean it because of an image or looks, he meant that Tom doesn't play as well because he doesn't have mark next to him to catch his vibes and work off of his jokes, etc.

"Tom just isnt the same without Mark standing next to him"

sounds to me like image is more important to you than substance. wait a second, you like box car racer, i'm not surprised.

The reviewer of this concert is an idiot, with the musical perspective of a 15 year old girl, worst review ive ever seen on this site

    evilash (November 23, 2002)

To the people commenting on Courtney Love below.

Dont talk crap on her... Kurt Cobain might come back from the dead and hunt you down... last I heard, the man owns a gun and is not afraid to use it.

    WussEmoRock (November 23, 2002)

I'm going to see this tomorrow night. But, I am going to it for the 2 openers who ween't even playing your date. taking back sunday and the used, if all goes well I guess I will stay and see H20 and BCR, but I definetely do not want to. Shit, way too much money for this tour too, and (laughs)--it is sit down. Haven't done one of these since I saw Blink with BR! hahaha

    *****Wuss-Emo-Rock*****

    BostonMusicGuy (November 23, 2002)

The review was fine. I didnt see a problem with it... moron. This was a useless tour in my opinion. Neither of these bands appeal to me at all. H2O used to have a few ok songs but Go! and that new one... i heard a few songs off of it and... .fucking a! that stuff is shit!-BostonMusicGuy

Horrible, horrible review. Do everyone a favor and never write anything again.

    sloppyblake (November 22, 2002)

funny how tom delonge plays guitar during one song on 'have a ball' by the gimmes huh?

    Anonymous (November 22, 2002)

haha Sick Boi/Sk8er Boi...kinda funny they are the same spelling. Avril under cover?

    zeiter (November 22, 2002)

Yeah, I really don't see Box Car Racer covering 'Mandy' to be totally spectacular, especially since the gimmie gimmies did it like 5 years ago.

    Anonymous (November 22, 2002)

oh boy, h2o . . . sigh. . . why? (shakes fist in air crying) why? it really is sad to see what once was a great band turn into fucking openers for box car willie (if you were at the recent d.c. bosstones show, you'll get it) or whoever the fuck they are. actually, touring with shit bands(sum 41, nfg) isn't what upsets me more. its the fact that they have TOTALLY changed their sound. you'll notice less and less hardcore in their records as now, in their new song, its nfg material. they've lost all their fans trying to make new ones. its even harder to turning my back on them considering they are one of the nicest guys around.

    Anonymous (November 22, 2002)

the two is for H2O being on a shitty label tour. God they betrayed my love Boxcar racer=blink 182's better moments in drop D. Why was H2O opening for them anyway H2O has been around longest has more cred than anyone on that tour yet they are opening for 2 shit bands. Oh H2O how could you forget your roots. Thats a song they cant play live anymore or at least until they drop off MCA and start touring with good bands again.
