Bad Religion - New Maps of Hell (Deluxe)

On November 11th 2002, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones made their stop at the House of Blues Orlando on the Jacknife to a Swan tour along with BigWig and Avoid One Thing. The first band to take the stage caught me by surprise and that was the Orlando based ska-core band the Spitvalves. I've seen the Spitvalves numerous times and they always impress me with their energy and their actual set. What surprised me though was the fact that they played first. They're bigger here than Avoid One Thing is but no big deal. My only complaint with their set this time around is that they played more new songs that I wasn't familiar with but they were still good.

After the Spitvalves came Avoid One Thing. Avoid One Thing is actually Joe from the Bosstones' side band and I think I was the only one in the crowd that knew that, but oh well. The songs they played sounded pretty good I knew one song and that was their song "Yakisoba" but the highlight of their set was when someone in the crowd was heckling them and she got caught then Joe was like "we're a punk band so next time you go to hot topic you can find our cd there." Funny Stuff, but I guess you had to be there.

Next up was the New Jersey band BigWig. To keep it simple...these guys rule. They came out to that "it's amore" song and did their usual fire drum intro and blasted right into the song "Numbers" and didn't hold any of their energy back all the way up to the closing song "SellOut" In between those songs they also played "Sore Losers," "Waste," "Moosh," "Mr. Asshole," "Flavor Ice," and their covers of "Knowledge" and the "Cheers Theme" plus a bunch more. Crazy. Check these guys out!

Ska sucks and it isn't cool anymore. Nobody told the Bosstones that and if they did the Bosstones don't care. The Bosstones have a swagger all of their own once they get on stage. They've earned their swagger over the years too. These guys are great. I didn't know a whole lot of their songs though. They played alot more of their older songs, which alot of people liked. Everyone in the crowd was dancing, skanking and just chillin when they slowed things down. Highlights for me included: "Everybody's Better," "You Gotta Go!," "1-2-8," "Where'd You Go?," "Numbered Days," "The Impression that I get (which they played like the 4th song in which was kinda surprising) and an encore with "Someday I suppose."

All in all, a great show with some laughs and some great music.

I asw em when they played at the State Theater in St. Pete. I only caught the end of Avoid One Thing's set and spent all of it looken around for a friend who was supposd to meet me there. Bigwig kicked some serious ass, as did the Bosstones. The only shitty part was the 20 dollar door cost, but ah well, still one of the better shows I've been to.

Fuzzy, shut the fuck up. Please. Besides Jon, I think everyone here knows I like RBF more than anyone. trust me, everytime someone makes fun of me they say "he is gay, well what do you expect he likes RBF." So please, next time just keep your mouth shut, I absolutely love that band, I hope my arguement was clearer this time haha.

I haven't heard that many people bash RBF here actually. I've seen them (rightfully) beat down those who think they were the end all be all of the skapunk trend. However, just because most of the bands you like gets you abused, doesn't mean that all of them do. Please don't take the RBF name in vain to help with your martyrdom.

"What kind of morons are down in Orlando if they don't know that."

I seen Orlando kids mosh to Kind of Like Spitting the other night. If you go to House of Blues I guess you learn to accept the fact the majority of the crowd is going to be there more to socialize than to enjoy the show. The social is usually a little truer to the music. Usually.

Just don't ever make a comment on good ska punk/core then. :)

I just can't wait. This show was fucking amazing in DC, and it's gonna be great in Columbus. Bosstones are the best live show ever. Maybe because they are my favorite band ever. They created the trend, they ignored it, and came out stronger than they were before.

Avoid One Thing is AAMMZAAAAZING. 3 times seeing them, and they get better everytime. That CD is in my top 10 this year fo sho. Bigwig was really good at the date I saw...the sound was fucked up, but it was quality entertainment. I personally am upset that A Simple Plan is going to be at Columbus, but the 'Tones have a history of giving smaller bands a shot in the "scene" where most elitists would turn their back because of the poppiness. While I like this, I can't say I am going to enjoy seeing these guys. It's going to be like sitting thru the starting line all over again. Peace out.

lol, to the guy below me you actually just made me laugh out loud with your impressions of RealPunxer or whatever his name is. He is still here but talks in English now, so he's not as noticeable.

For everyone else, so what that I like poppy ass candy music? I like other stuff too, I just don't hide behind a shell scared that someone might make fun of me for liking simple plan, rbf, or anything else like that.

people, if you like it, say so, you aren't the only people out there (theirs always still the band members and their families)
