When I first read about Hopesfall, they were being hailed as music in the vein of Poison the Well. After my first listen, I had to agree, but the later comparison for me went to From Autumn to Ashes. Now I am a huge fan of FATA, and therefore, “The Satellite Years” was something that latched on to me quickly. Unfortunately for them, the Poison the Well comparisons came naturally too, and this is mainly because the music is quite similar. They follow the heavy grinding guitar to acoustic formula. The screaming, emotional vocals to softer, more melodic singing. “The Satellite Years” is a surefire hit for those who are fans of PTW and FATA. Unlike PTW, Hopesfall has a less harsh, more melodic edge. They work in similar guitar riffs that FATA uses so greatly. best cd this band has put out my fav album ever i loooooooooooove hopesfall. but i heard a-types and it is GOD AWFUL. incredible cd. cant wait for their next release. fucking awsome cd. INCREDIBLE. and fata sold out. poison the well is going to soon and hopesfall is too...but not for a while. long live screamo. musically this album is great. the lyrics are so arty and "poetic" that it seems like they could have written anything abstract and it would have stuck. i'm a big fan of hopesfall, i wrote a live review of them on here. i listen more for the instrumentation than the lyrics. so many people say things like "you can feel the emotion" referring to bands, but no real emotion comes thru when reading the lyrics. however, when you hear the whole package you can definetly get some sense of passion these guys have for their music. The screaming is nice and the music just rolls nicely. These guys have some ambiant guitar stuff that is totally cool. Great album Beautiful hardcore. Sound's ironic, but it's true. I really enjoyed this record. I don't see much comparison between Hopesfall and any other band. I think they set themselves apart technically and aesthetically. They sound original and new to me. They are extremely melodic and even take time to write some brilliant instrumental interludes on both of their releases. Great album and good sound for anyone who likes the sound of harmony with guitars and voices and a break from the double bass. Beautiful melodic hardcore. take the manner of vocalisation away and the ptw comparison goes with it. musically, ptw are not even in the same ball park. the music is the best thing about this album anyway, especially the guitars, which, while we're talking comparisons, was done long ago by leatherface, only much faster. if anything, hopesfall's sound is more reminscent of grade than any of their label-mates. this is the best thing i've heard in a long while. I really don't get it. so instead they should say something like "brick smashing teeth out of your face good"? Amazing is the trendiest word in punk/hardcore/emo and it's fucking annoying. North Carolina in the hiz-ouse!!! No wings to speak of isn't hopesfalls first cd, Fraility of Words is their first cd, i just thought you should know. Hopesfall are amazing live and if you have the oppertunity to see them you def should. They are realy nice guys too. My gosh, can people ever NOT compare other bands to other bands in a genre, and argue over who did it first? SHUT UP. Dude, if you ever saw this band play, or talked to the members, in any of its incarnations, you would know that Hopesfall is one of the most sincere and humble bands out there. They put their hearts and souls into their music, and know how incredibly lucky they are to be able to bring it to so many other people. They've been paying dues for awhile, and I'm really happy that people are finally noticing them. these bands are the next huge thing. its already big but it's just a matter time before it replaces "pop-punk". I saw hopesfall for the first time last month and I thought they were good live, but when I bought Satellite Years, it was a LOT slower than i thought it was going to be. bah, these guys sound nothing like poison the well. and the whole 'from autumn to ashes originality' thing makes no sense either. this cd DOES NOT sound like poison the well. id like to hear someone give a good explanation on how it sounds like them, unlike the vague review. christian metalcore....yet i like it... its me.....tea-bagging your mom What the fuck is a hopesfall? ever listened to You & I or Early Grace(the one from gainsville)? to the person below me: FATA and originality in the same sentence? FATA is nothing more then a band riding the Poison THe Well train.... dont ever compare this amazing band to the shit that is from autumn to ashes. no wings to speak of. i actually like hopesfall more than poison the well. they're just as tough as PTW but their quiet parts are developed much better . These guys are good. Quite a few positive comments on here too. That kind of suprises me considering that almost everytime there is a review of a christian band people start slamming it. No Wings To Speak Of is as fantastic EP. This is sort of...blah. I like them more than Poison the Well though. What Hopesfall suffers the most from is bad timing. They've been around longer than most of the bands now grouped into the metalcore genre (PTW formed only a little before them, and Shai Hulud predates both, if I'm missing anymore please let me know), yet it took them much longer to release an album on a more recognized label (they've had two releases prior to this, the first in 1999). Bad luck I guess. Anyway, I don't look at it as "PTW for pussies," as Scott so eloquently put it, but I think their music is what seperates them from the rest of the pack. Much more diversified, and I love the juxtaposition between the vocals and music. While most metalcore bands look to just shove as much raw power they can muster in your face, hopesfall take a much more intricate direction, and create a sound all their own. Oh yeah, and their live show is sick, so much energy. Anyway, this is a damn good album, and I hope they get the attention that they've deserved for a long time. This is Poison The Well for pussies. Even I know that. Pass. you havent heard their first ep have you? the satellite years is pretty good, im liking it more, but no wings to speak of fucking blows it away. much longer songs, much more variation, much more musicality. go download "the end of an era" and see how much better it is that this cd. i stil like it, im just not in love with it. comparing them to PTW and FATA are allright i guess, but not close enough. i put hopes fall way above these bands...well maybe not PTW's tear from the red. hopesfall's melodies are simply beautiful, and their heavy parts are brutal. while they dont really sound very similar, i would compare hopes fall to glassjaw just because of the emotions they explore. glassjaw's first cd (not counting their ep) was incredible, and their new cd is good but not as great. same for hopes fall. the lyrics read like poetry, and i think "dead in magazies" is one of the best songs ive heard in a while, just the contrast that was in the ep isnt here. the ep goes from thick, heart-warming melodies, to bone crunching screams that just make your spine tingle. this cd is good, but i would find no wings to speak of if i were you. or go to www.trustkill.com and d/l some songs first. great band, fucking awesome live.
