Reviews

Only one word can describe the first release from St. Catharine's own Alexisonfire, and that word is unbelievable. My buddy made me listen to the sampler at school and as soon as I heard it I was hooked. I went out and bought the album the day it came out. Alexisonfire, named after a contorting, lactating, pornstar, combine emo and hardcore and turn it into a stew of ear candy.

The record starts off with the track ".44 caliber love letter." The rhythmic and melodic intro lasts for about 2 minutes but instantly the listener is transported into a hardcore heaven. Other tracks like "counterparts and number them", "A dagger through the hearts of st. angelis", "waterwings (and other pool side fashion faux pas)" and "little girls pointing and laughing" are full of smart, catchy lyrics. Lyrics like "Jennifer, they lied to you when they said you couldn't breathe underwater. I lied to you when I said I was hard, because I'm softer than a thrift store sweater and twice as worn in" are found all over the album. There are two singers in the band and they offer a great contrast throughout the record and make it a a great record to put in your cd player and listen to.

Don't get me wrong, Alexisonfire is not a soft, run of the mill emo band. Every track is hard hitting, in your face, and full of energy.

This record was amazing and now I'm hooked to screamo.

Also, use caution because this record will make small children and the elderly cry out of fear.

This is their best album by far. Their 2nd and 3rd are great as well, just not as raw as this.

Too bad they now suck. Or at least Young Cardinals does.

I can't believe the nerve of some of these people to say that this album is shite. I guarantee you that everyone who said that can't play the guitar even a quarter as fast as these guys. Al you gotta do is listen to counterparts and number them to know thes guys mean business. It doesn't even matter if you can't understand what they're saying man, just feel the music and rock out. I think this album fucking kicks ass... Can't get enough of the kennedy curse. ANd by the way...if you don't like the album because you don't like the genre then fuck off and stop gving these guys bad reviews cuz just the ingenuity and creativity in their sound is so much different than everybody else that they're amazing.

Alexisonfire is a great band. Their music gets your adrenaline going and gets you excited. Their self-titiled album is awesome, but Watch Out is mediocre.

THURSDAY IS NOT SCREAMO. Like some people previously stated, it is simply "screamy emo". How the fuck can anyone have the audacity to compare Thursday to Alexisonfire in the first place? Thursday is a decent band, but highly overrated. Alexisonfire has a unique style and their music would crush Thursday's any day.

And to the guy with the cheese-grating hats comment: Props.

    screamo isn't thursday.
    thursday isn't screamo.
the two don't go together; however, thursday is a good emo band, but, as far as my knowledge will take me, thursday hasn't even tapped into what is even hardcore, i mean, i'm no one to judge, but thursday isn't that great of a band. fuck you pretty boy.

    My Score:

I don't know, I really can't see much difference. I mean, metalcore and Grindcore are virtually identical and screamo's only difference is that it has less of a "Chugga Chugga" effect. It's all just varied hardcore if you ask me.

    My Score:

"whats the difference between screamo, metalcore, and grindcore? please, someone tell me."

screamo is screamy emo, metalcore is a blend of metal and hardcore, and grindcore is just really brutal, fast, usually complicated metal/hardcore.

yeah, those crazy kids and their sub-genres.

Amazing vocals on both ends of the spectrum and good lyrics. I can listen to this album over and over and still just not get tired of it in the least. Fucking great.

i saw them with hopesfall a few months ago, fantastic band...except for the fact the bassist almost hit me in the face with his instrument...also, the appearance of the sorority life girls (as the new on was filmed at my school) at that show made it more amusing (they knew a couple guys in a local metal band), as the kids harassed them to no end...watch the show, maybe you'll see me doing something stupid...

This band is suddenly every southern ontario hardcore fan's favourite band, and I can't for the life of me figure out why. I can't stand the singer's voice, and I can't stand the singer himself. With the exception of the great voice of the backup singer, the band is pretty average.

I find it grisly hilarious that major chain stores like HMV are really pushing this album with special prices and placement.

Oh, and guys? No matter how cool you think you are, you do not have the trend-setting power to make cheese-grater hats acceptable band merch.
