For those with actual ears attached to their heads, the microphones do not sound like PIL. Sure I like second edition just as much as the next man but last time I checked john lydon didn't sing about the wind, trees , snow, and other elements of nature. The bombastic drum sounds and tape effects are maybe the only thing these two groups have in common. PIL are more about dub and rhythm while the microphones are more folky pop. This record's packaging is really neat(I speak of the LP version). It features great pen and ink drawings of an old woman holdin what appears to be a dog or similar creatures skull, an old man in a stone shanty, and a drawing of mount eerie. It is bound together by thread by the elvrum family and various olympia scene makers. my favorite song is with kyle field of the little wings. also on this record are mirah, the blow , calvin johnson, karl blau, and dennis driscoll. This is more than just phil elvrum it's more like a who's who of olympia and k records. I strongly advise anyone to try the previous records by the microphones(The glow Pt. 2, It was hot we stayed in the water) before picking this one up. Not because this isn't as good but because it might be a little too out there for first time listeners.

good stuff....i know it may be a bit odd and seem to simple for some people.......but it is atmosperic and it takes a lot of cresativity. Not much musical skill, but, like electronic music (which this isn't), it has a certain appeal to it if done correctly. It gives off a great atmosphere, in the way that traditional asain music does.

If you mean "pop" by the song "Poptones", maybe you have a case. I'm sorry, but I'm sick of electro-gimmick bands like this. I mean, only the originals get away with it. Of course, I will admit that "This is What You Want, this is What You Get" sucks... but there's a bootleg called "Commercial Zone" that mends all those problems... it was the version that had instruments. Later PiL delved too deep into techno for my likings, especially "9". But they were never "pop"...

And this "Kill Johnny" nonsense is idiotic... "The Sex Pistols were fake and their manager made all their music!" is a popular, yet idiotic opinion in the punk community.

Let me clear this up: Johnny was auditioned because he had green hair. He auditioned well and that was that.
Certainly not the last audtition in punk history. The Sex Pistols had been around for a few years BEFORE they got a manager. Malcom offered them rehearsel space, in turn he hired Rotten to be their singer. Rotten wrote all of the lyrics to the songs, save their covers and "Belsen Was a Gas", which was written by Sid Vicious. McLaren later lost money in court for claims that he wrote all of the songs and that the Sex Pistols were puppets. And some people claim they were horrible because they wore swastikas on shirts and the likes... Sorry, but in that case the Ramones are also horrible, along with just about every punk band of that era. Swastikas weren't a symbol of hatred or racism to the punks... it meant simply rebellion and shock value. And when people say "they can't play" or "rotten sucks at writing" they have truly lost the case. Punk was originally, believe it or not, not meant to be a genre that took alot of skill to play the music to. It was about, raw, basic rock played faster and harder. Of course, pop-punk killed that. And Rotten's lyrics were genius.

The Sex Pistols were the first political punk band... Get over it you assholes.

I like challenging music, but this is really kind of pretentious sounding. This kind of music doesnt really seem to hard to create. Its like banging on pots and pans and recording it. But yet somehow people love this, so who knows? I dont know why people at pitchfork and other indier-than-thou snobs feel smarter for some reason by liking this stuff.

I was trying to give it 9 for a score, I dunno why it gave it 4. But seriously, I got this album yesterday and it's one of the albums you listen to and your just kinda like, WHAT?......... after you listen to it the first time, it's an expierence, and the packaging is beautiful too

The Microphones are great, I haven't heard anything from this album yet but I've heard good things.

Sound kind of new age-ish. Kind of creepy. At the beginning of the song I heard the guy's voice and was like "What da?!", but his "anybody" lazy voice and the serene sounds around it was kind of mezmerizing and relaxing. I like that kind of stuff, so it's cool by me. I mean, you need tranquil stuff after a day of listening to your favorite hardcore bands.
