Friday night rolls around. Ive got nothing better to do so I head up to Burlington, Ontario. The venue is a weird comunity center that holds marching band practice, but very cool none the less.

Ottawa's District 7 opened the show with a 25min set filled with energy. Id best describe this band as skate punk. They were tight musically and their lyrics seemed to be politically minded. I had seen them at warped tour last year and was excitied to see the guys again.

Next up was Rescue. Im not a big fan of slow techinical music. They were good at what they did, but didnt do much for me.

After rescue came The End, the band that I had come to see. The only word i can use to describe The End, is chaotic. They blasted out a set full of energy and badass breakdowns. There was a ton of great dancing , including a light saber fight..I most closley compare them to Dillinger Escape Plan, but that comparison doesnt do them justice.

Up next was Detroit's very own, Fordirelifesake. Easily the most pleasant surprise of the night. Tight music and melodic sing alongs made them a new favorite. I suguest Fordirelifesake to anyone that likes bands such as Thrice, Recover etc.

During the next band I took a break to get some food. From what I heard, i wasnt too impressed.

And last up was Boys Night Out. I cant say enough about this band. Memorable lyrics and a great stage presence has put these guys on the map. My opinion, Boys Night Out could be the next big thing. Watch for them. Fans of Atreyu,Saves The Day, Alexisonfire could easily get into this band.

All in all, it was a very well spent 5$. Gotta love the exchange rate. Burlington shows never seem to dissapoint.

As much as I like Boys Night Out, I don't think they are all that technical. Atreyu is though, but I don't enjoy them all that much.

Haha so you blast me for lame name dropping, but then you go ahead and cite Glasseater...

The reason for the lame name dropping was to try and give people that may have never heard of these types of bands a remote idea as to what theyd be in for.

And as for the length of the review, I wrote it after the show and it was real late.

That was one of the worst reviews I have ever read.

Seriously.

Rescue is not slow. Yes, they're technical, but to call them slow is absurd. Pick up the EP "Even People and Not the Odds" and then tell me they're too slow...

Fordirelifesake is much better at song writing than either of the bands you compared them too. Recover lacks the technical aspect. Just because a few bands scream pseudo-metal doesn't mean they're really similar.

Finally, I'm embarassed for Boys Night Out that you would compare them to such god-awful junk as Atreyu. If Atreyu had half as technical songs, and wrote lyrics that are remotely as good as BNO, then they'd be mediocre at best.

The best comparison I can think of would be Glasseater/Lifetime, but even then, you need to draw in the obvious metal influence.

That other band you thought sucked, so you left... I believe that was The Fullblast. They are, hands down, the best pop-punk act there is right now. But I guess that's your loss for skipping their set.

I would've loved to be at this show. And I would've written a good review of it, as opposed to a few indesciptive sentences meshed with name-dropping of horrible bands.

i think we need to limit the live reviews, ones like these are not descriptive or interesting, they just state who was there and thats about it. You gotta admit that it got real annoying when we had a million and a half warped and plea 4 peace reviews posted every week. While i see that those tours have so many bands that they could have been all different(but not really, think of all the times common rider, tinc, nofx, br, and whoever else was popular this year were mentioned, and it got real old after 2) but i think that the live shows should be limited to certain writers like the top 10 lists this year espically big tours like warped and p4p, just have maybe the editors or a person from each region like west & east coast, midwest, south. it would be alot better. maybe every now and then you could do a new person, kinda like a try out, but you really need to limit them.
