Review by: samnorth See others by this writer The Blood Brothers Official Website (link) Only registered users can post comments Published on March 18th 2003 Bands like the Blood Brothers don't just pop out of nowhere, but to many mainstream fans, it may seem that this is just what they've done. Last year they came out with the phenomenal "March On Electric Children" on Justin Pearson of The Locust's label, Three.One.G. Fans of that album will not be disappointed. Burn Piano Island, Burn picks up right where March On Electric Children left off, furthering the stories of the siamese gun and of course Piano Island. And musically, well musically, it's the greatest thing I've ever heard. This album has such raw intensity, such passionate vocals, such spastic melodies that...well you won't be able to stop yourself from jumping up and dancing around screaming like an idiot along with the words. Personally I think it may be a little too intense for mainstream listeners, but obviously ARTISTdirect doesn't think so. Any diehard fan of punk rock or hardcore will surely appreciate this masterpiece though. It also shows growth on behalf of the Blood Brothers. The Jerome's Dream-esque song "Guitarmy" shows that the band doesn't care to stick to typical format, while the experimental "Piano Song" demonstrates the group's ability to branch out and leave behind their typically guitar led music. Fans may or may not be pleased that the band is more fully utilizing the keyboards in songs like "Cecilia & The Silhouette Saloon."
I could talk about this album for hours to tell you the truth, tell you every last thing about it, but I'll let you discover this on your own. It's gonna blow your fucking mind.

I think this album was one of their best, they toned down with crimes and then again with Young Machetes. As great as Piano Island is, it is no match for Crimes. fo_sho. blood brothers bring it home... I have sex with the hole in the middle of this CD on a nightly basis. Every Breath is a Bomb owns you all. this album is just one of those that plays on repeat in your head for the rest of the day and no matter what you do...but you really don't care. I'd like to reiterate that this album may require multiple listens for newer fans. However, once you realize the talent of the band, perfection of the lyrics, and beauty of the vocals, you'll see why so many people shit their pants over this band. Drugs have ruined my life. brilliant. anyone who doesn't like this album should go fuck theirselves This shit is excellent. Hands down the best record of 2003. The lead singer sounds like Daryl Palumbo(Glassjaw) on helium. This band is badass and they come off as a Hardcore jam band. I posted the last post, but about the cd, I'd say it deserves an 8. It seems when ever a new band comes along, you guys always call it the greatest thing ever made or one of the greatest albums ever, even though there's stuff out there that can rival it easy. fuck you arty farty bullshit suckers if only the fucking stupid pseudo-hardcore pricks who posted negative comments about the cd would have actually listened to it, we would have a different story i was just reading this, to see what all you people think about this record. I've tried. I really have. With this album, but mostly with the previous two albums. I first learned about them through Waxwing, but I just can't get into it. I just don't think metal or hardcore can be done by someone with a nasally, high pitched voice. It just sounds like you're fast forwarding a childrens nursery rhyme sing-a-long tape. Kick-ass album, definitely one of the best albums released this year. This cd is OK at best. Buy their old ones. or buy some Me First and the Gimme Gimmes! Have you heard of the band The Kinison yet? They play powerful post-hardcore with inspiring danceable rythms and an attitude that won't quite. If you like Refused or the Blood Brother's, this is deffinatly the band for you. Their debut EP, Mortgage is Bank, is being released on June 10th. Check them out at www.thekinison.com. i think you have to read the lyrics to love this one. i think its great but maybe it kind of falls off a little near the end? i like fuckings greatest hits and ambulance vs. ambulance the best. i agree you probably either like it or you dont seriously, this album kicks ass. spazz-core, ha! march on electric children was a little better but much of the blood brothers music blows me away, its amazing. Well, to each her own, but I don't understand how anyone can listen to this. After seeing them the first time, I thought they were one of the worst bands I've ever seen, but deceided to give them a second chance. I should've listened to my first instincts. Drummer and bass player seem competant, but the guitars are horrendous. And the vocals. . .not exactly sure what they are screaming, but it sounds like two little kids screaming for their parents in a haunted house. . .hardly listenable. But if thats your thing, I guess you would like this album. this is a good album, but not even close to being perfect. bad choice for a 5 star. the blood brothers are good, but Lightning Bolt or LIARS are better. Ambulance vs. Ambulance is a good song, but thats not there revolutionary stuff. Although compared to most things that IS revolutionary, but you obviously want something fancier. My personal fav song is "I know where the canarys and the crows go." is that on this CD? i alwasy get confused. bah, i think it is. this record kicks ass. couldn't find the e-card you were talking about...i downloaded ambulance vs ambulance instead since i found that online. i like the lead singer who sounds like jason nelson when he's actually singing but that's because i'm a fan of mu330 and orangetree....i still don't see much of anything that's revolutionary or special to the point of this kind of praise. Hey Skafather- just so you are aware, Jennifer is one of blood brothers older songs (relatively speaking) so don't judge just yet...you haven't heard anything off their new album yet...I reccomend "Cecilia and the Silouette Salloon," "Every Breath is a Bomb," "The Shame" and "Denver Max" ...i know artistdirect has an e-card with the latter two songs, but the URL escapes me...let me know what you think when you hear em...peace *checks out the 3 videos on the website* refused predicted the shape of punk to come, and the blood brothers are it's savior. I know my 2 cents really don't matter, from reading all these comments...but I'd like to say that this is the best album i've bought then Progress by RxB two years ago...to the guy who said this is a "pro-tooled piece of crap" or whatever, go see them live, then get back to me...i've seen them three times and have the DVD, so i've seen a very mixed setlist and they can play just about every song live...I hate all the nu-emo bullshit, largely because bands like Taking Back Sunday and Thursday are so over-produced that they can't hit any high notes whatsoever, and the live experience is suffocated for that reason...Did someone say to go listen to good hardcore like "Give up the Ghost?" Jesus dont get me started...they were upstaged by blood brothers on the glassjaw tour, it wasn't even funny...this album is a must-have for anyone who has appreciation for talented music i can understand ppl not liking it, i but i love it, but i love weird shit like. vocal are fucking amazing, to manic to soulfuliness I agree with Scott, this might be the best thing out this year so far, and will definitely make a lot of peoples top 10 lists. I do agree with a lot of people that it take time to grow on you though. "hey shane, can i call you dicksuck? alright dicksuck, well," the album by liars is good, but i can't listen to the last song while driving, i get the urge to drive into a tree. hey shane, can i call you dicksuck? alright dicksuck, well, why does someone need to buy an album before reviewing it? and by the way, i very much doubt that you knew the title of that song back in december when i wrote this review. it's not my fault they didn't want to post it until the cd came out. i thin kyou all missed the point i hope yr head explodes now shut up please yr embarassing yrself. it's just "Liars" and yeah they sound nothing like the blood brothers. i highly recommend their album though. this band...is average at best. i heard the song ambulance vs. ambulance and the music was pretty catchy and hard. the vocals were ultra annoying, it sounds like they did the vocals and put the pitch up all the way. nothing new exciting. This band sounds like nothing like The Liars. Whats the matter with you people. This band absolutely SUCKS. I honestly can't figure out what the hype is, has anyone actually LISTENED to this album? What's the matter with YOU. Can't you understand that some people have different opinions? That some people like music that others don't. I could bitch and bitch about how I hate the musical (I love them lyrically) portion of NOFX or Lagwagon......but it's just my opinion. So why come on here and bitch at other people. If you wanna say it sucks then fine.....but don't fucking bag on other people. Whats the matter with you people. This band absolutely SUCKS. I honestly can't figure out what the hype is, has anyone actually LISTENED to this album? sam submitted this review in december...thats why the song is still known as piano song on the review.. this is a solid record but the hype is out of control. i love the interplay between the 2 singers, though. Ambulance vs. Ambulance is amazing.. The Liars are a good band that kind of remind me of the Blood Bros. I think Davey has already lost his mind... the cd is enhanced by the way, comes with two live clips and a bunch o pics tagless undershirts the best thing since sliced bread? Dont fuck with tagless t-shirts. Hanes has eliminated the middle man and made comfort come standard..what was I talking about again? Oh wow, super rad fantastic! So good! Better than other stuff that is good! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOA! Blood Brothers rule the world! Definatley in my top 13 list of March, and probably the winter season! Heck, maybe even the decade! Dude, I just had a great pizza! Definatley one of the top 10 pizza's of the year! I agree with the guy 2 below. This band takes a few listens to get used to. The singer is different and some may never like it, but if you do end up liking it will be well worth it. This band is definetly talented, but not as great as some people on here would have you believe. All you kids who talk shit abut this band obviously just dont get it. Now, i know lots of people say "you dont like it, you dont get it!" But with the blood brothers this is a very true statement. They are so random and different from anything i have ever heard, you have to listen to them not expecting anything, and always looking for something. There songs perfectly combine technical prowess, humor, storytelling, and creativity in 4 minute long bursts of noise. At least thats what it sounds like at first. What im saying is...please dont judge this after one listen. Give it like 4 spins and then make up your mind. If you still dont like it, then just ignore me, we all have our own tastes. but i just cannot understand why someone would not like a band like this. Hehe Blood Brothers and Russel Crowe's band on the same label, that's funny. Oh speaking of ArtistDirect does anyone know if they distibute Epitaph? Just wondering because I saw a Hot Water Music commercial on MTV2 and they said you could get Caution on their web site... Is it just me.....or does the singer sound like Davey Havok gone insane? I think people are either gonna love this album or hate it. It's really random and crazy, but the production quality is really good. I need to get a lyrics sheet, if their lyrics hold up then this is deifnitely a top release of the year for me. The spazzy vocals are another love 'em or hate 'em thing, they take some getting used to, but once you do they are great. Like I said before, they remind me of the Germs kind of, in the random agrosity. It's not the hardest stuff you'll ever here, but it is extremely creative spazzy hardcore with random elements thrown in. It's the musical equivalent to a nervous breakdown. The high production values don't detract to much, since most of their albums sound similar to this. and you guys need to ease up on the blood brothers' nuts. christ, this isn't the best record of all time. just picked this up and i really dig it I seriously hope my cd is broken, because what I hear coming out of my stereo is a pro-tooled chipmunks play bad hardcore. after everything i heard i really looked forward to this too. i dont get it, its alright i guess, but its more of the theatric stage show mechanics as song crowd, at least they did it before there clones. does this come out today? I love how people are making their top lists so early in the year. best record of the next 6 years. easily. Yeah, this album is freaking amazing. Easily in the top 5 of the year. yeah, it's no ska. *shudders* This guy obviously doesn't have the record as he is still referring to "Piano Song" which is not the name on the record. That was a working title that was still used when the album "leaked". It's called "Every Breath Is A Bomb". Buy the record before reviewing. Tech bands fucking suck (not that blood brothers are a tech band) but bad music is band music, it doesn't fucking matter if it's really hard to play. I think it's about tight jeans though, if i bought myself some skin tight jeans i'll enjoy tech bands. Poop fuck poopy shit eat cunt. Such not as good as 'march on electric children' but it's good to hear they got some money i fucking hate ross robinson. Hey by the way guy too qoutes down if you want intense music listen to some real fucking hardcore like "give up the ghost" (an), and fucking converge and dillinger escape plan FUCK THIS BAND FUCK, THIS SUCKS, FUCKING CRAP EAT SHIT. DOnt ive me the stupid "outside the mainstream angle" this shit is shit its not even listenable. FUCKING SHIT YOU STOOPID PUNK ROCK AND HARDCORE BASTARDS WHO THINK THIS IS SOMEKIND OF "ARTISTIC STATEMENT" ARE BEING FUCKING DOOPED They're on a major? What? This could actually get on a major? that's cool. Best Major Label punk release since Amen's 2000 album. Of course this will probably get no attention, most people are just to weak to deal with music this intense. This album grows on me each time i listen to it. At first listen to this band i was like "What the fuck!?! Whacked out!"...like a moron, but i love their intensity and almost spastic screams. This reminds me of Leftover Crack in it's raw insanity and the Germs in it's explosive spastic intensity. mmmmmmmm blood brothers are good. man, i absolutely cant stand this band. but, you know...to each their own. Yes, what Scott said. such a good cd and a good band, i couldnt beleive that they are on a major. Hope it goes well for this band and they come back to the midwest, they are awsome live So. |
