| Cursive / No Knifelive in Chicago2003 live show Review by: Katie4213 See others by this writer Official Cursive Homepage (link) Only registered users can post comments Published on March 25th 2003
As much as I don’t support the U.S.’s decision to go to war in Iraq, I wish the protesters on Thursday night in Chicago could have chosen a different night or a location other than Lake Shore Drive to do their demonstration. A drive, which normally takes me under a half hour, turned into a two hour and fifteen minute adventure to get to the Metro to see Cursive, No Knife, Small Brown Bike, and The Ghost. im sorry, but Small Brown Bike was the best band there. Its to bad you missed them. Next time they come around you need to see them! This shit is ridiculous. "..only one *loking* stupid here is you. When your only argument is that im making myself *lok* stupid.." Oh, I wasnt saying you were a dick....but you did say it like a dick. It was very condescending. But I thought it was funny. And yeah, I dont know why I called you Safari. Sorry bout that Fuzzy. Actually, my name's Fuzzy. Well, Justin. The safari thing is in reference to the new Apple Web Browser that doesn't like PN's cookies. And if knowing a band's in print catalog is being a scenester, then label me as such. I'm not even that huge of a Cursive fan. I was a dick about it, just basically wanted to inform him. Way to show off how big of a scenester you are Safari. Hahahaha. And feedmynightmare or whatever your called, I think the only one loking stupid here is you. When your only argument is that im making myself lok stupid, you know you dont have one. So did they play anything off their first album? Such Blinding Stars... Because Cursive had life before they were on Saddle Creek. Again, one thing you should do is know the band's material before you talk bout them "playing the old stuff". But overall, a decent review. Small Brown Bike is pretty amazing live, you missed what was probably a great performance. -Fuzzy (safari hates your cookies) Pissing people off is a side effect that cannot be avoided sometimes. You can't fit thousands upon thousands of people on sidewalks, so the streets are where people are forced to go. A normally 45 minute ride took roughly 2 hours going to this show and I wasn't really upset even though I saw Small Brown Bike play 4 songs, and they're one of my favorite bands. I knew it was important NOW (when we're at war) and realize it is not only freedom of speech, but for a good cause. Sure, it won't change the minds of everyone for or against the war, but it's still needs to happen. "Cursive, No Knife, Small Brown Bike, and The Ghost. " "I wish I didn't have to explain this to you, but the reason they're in the road is because there were so many and the road was shut down. Is this too complex of a concept for you? And I'm sure they're really concerned about some idiot like yourself who wants to cry because they're stuck in traffic. This is war not something that can just be dismissed so you can get to where you're going on time. DICK. I also see that somehow you've come to the conclusion that protesting doesn't change people's minds or have any point. Right..." "Oh my god. Live looping and recorded sampling, there is SUCH huge fucking difference there" "now that's a knife!" I can't believe you said "ish" That was coherant....ahaahaahahah...duhhhhh.ahjahahahdhsfg. I'M AN IDIOT@! AAHAHAHHA bottle rocket was a pretty funny movie...big ups for the name DIGNIN...ahahahahahahahahaha, nothings funnier than comments about war on the REVIEW FOR THE CURSIVE/NO KNIFE SHOW...ahahahahahahahahahahahahahha...isn't there like a chat room where you can do that shit...ahaha... How about making a statement? Any rational person wouldn't look at it simply as a silly inconvenience." Oh my god. Live looping and recorded sampling, there is SUCH huge fucking difference there. I mean, if they do recorded beats, there is no integrity there. No way. Get off your fuckin soap box, your petty argument didnt do anything. I dont care how the samples were made, I care how they got there, and that they complimented the music. It worked fine. And how come everyone assumes that you have to be in bands from the "golden age" of rock to be a talented song writer? One listen to "The Ugly Organ" and you will know this dude is one hell of a song writer. Now please shut up. no one cares about the highlighted reviews hey here is an idea!!! It's punk to be anti-war....so fuck the government! Meh, start your own website and pay for your own hosting costs if you don't like the bold reviews. Scott has every right to do whatever he wants with the site. BTW, I saw Cursive and SBB in Minneapolis and it was great... oh but I long to see No Knife.. Why must I live in this hell hole? AATTN: Punknews.org readers: all these bands are great GreenVandal . Please stop , you have no idea what youre talking about. Yet another person that should learn something about music. Obviously no one would bring all the instruments, but im talking about live sampling. What Cursive does is pre record loops from a computer that they record. They then set presets on the sample machine and click them in during the song. LIVE sampling is recording shit on the fly and looping it. Live sampling is taking pieces of loops that a band would record offstage and during a set, mix these pieces to make the entire sample. Cursive already has this done, I dont see how this is talent. Now fuck off you brainless douchebag. "How about making a statement? Any rational person wouldn't look at it simply as a silly inconvenience." Actually Mr. Anonymous I am anti war and those "mindless comments" as you put are what some would call participating in dialogue. I didn't actually beleive in those comments but I was trying to have an inteligent discussion so that both me and the person who I was debating with could learn more about the subject. On a sidenote I was at a war protest in Seattle the other day and some of the people there made me ashamed to have the stance I have. They were there mostly to yell at cops and to live or relive the 60's. oh and that kid wasnt saying he didnt like the time signature of Small Brown Bikes songs. He was saying they were playing offbeat. Like one perosn playing too slow and the other one playing too fast. Thats not being creative. Thats sucking. OK, everytime I check a review today, Feedmynightmare is there making another stupid comment. Dude, do you ever shut the fuck up? You are a absolute moron! I have not red a single intelligent thing out of you yet! Cursive has real talent, and taking all the equipment they need to play there songs with them on tour would be absolutely ridiculous because they are far from millionaires. So they use loops to keep the songs integrity intact. Most bands just tack on violin and organs and other fncy stuff to there music in the studio, but Cursive writes with all that stuff there. Those are the songs. SO they use loops because its pretty hard to take a organ on tour with you in your van. And it still sounds good. I dont know what is up your ass but, you need to get it out. The kid was pissed that he missed part of the show cuz of the rally. I would be too. Realistically you would be too. Please stop trying to seem so cool and shut up. Yea to the douchebag that commented about the guys in small brown bike playing to different beats, not all music is played in 4/4. These guys have more talent than most of the bands today. So, next time you say something ridiculous , learn a thing or two about music. "You know, though, the MOST important thing about protesting a war is changing people's minds to see what you see, and ticking them off by makiing them sit int raffic for an hour and a half is not the best way to do that." Fuck of Dignin, I'm sick of your shit. You posted about 500 mindless comments on war posts that were disproven repeatidly. FUCK YOU! i was at this show. small brown bike absolutly blew. not because their music was bad but because they didnt even keep time with each other. it was really pathetic. watching a bunch of guys rock out to different beats. yeah, shut up. Cursive is the best. You know, though, the MOST important thing about protesting a war is changing people's minds to see what you see, and ticking them off by makiing them sit int raffic for an hour and a half is not the best way to do that. I heard Bush was going to stop the war because of the protesters...yaaa riiiiight. Bob Dylan was real talent, The Beatles were real talent. Cursive is very good at what they do, but real talent? Cmon now. All of Ted's loops and effect patterns are even pre recorded. Small Brown Bike stole the show. Cursive's last album was great, Ugly Organ is all filler(garbage). good review, but again folks, can we just put reviews on the site from people who actually caught the entire show? |
