This was my 3rd time seeing Strike Anywhere, and they seem to get better each time. This time they came with Orlando's hardcore darlings The New Mexican Disaster Squad and Florida's flamboyant led The Young And The Useles, this was Strike Anywhere's 3rd time playing the Social, they played last summer, and their first time, in early 2002 with Avail.

The band that kicked off the night at a relativly early time was The Young And The Useless, aside from having a name taken already by more bands than you can name, this band's claim to fame is having a chugga chugga lead singer with high, girly voice when he talks. This band is ok, just sort of generic, chugga chugga hardcore, oh and this band does tambarine solos sometimes, brilliant, they put on a dissapointing and unmotivating set, but they put alot of effort in...i guess...

Next up were local favorite's The New Mexican Disaster Squad, these guys are probably the 2nd biggest band in Orlando, behind local Ska-Core legends The Spitvalves, anywho, I've seen these guys alot, and they still sound like minor threat, which is cool i guess, the crowd was, as always pretty into them and they put on a solid set, lots of fists in the pit, quite violent actually, but a solid set from these local hardcore kiddies.

After a seemingly short wait, the familiar drum beat of "You're Fired" began, thus starting the set of Richmond, Va's Strike Anywhere. Everyone knew the words, and it seemed like a type of Hardcore Dashboard show, there were alot of people there during the set, and 75% knew every word. After the first tune, the band blasted into "Laughter in a police state", another tune off of their first full length "Change Is A Sound" . Thet played more off of Change including "Detenation" followed by "TimeBomb Generation", after that, they played a new song, which the setlist calls "5th estate", this is off the new album which they said comes out September 30th. After that they played "Sunset On 32nd", "Earthbound", off of their ep "Chorus of one", then my personal favorite "Chalkline". The band, as always had tremendous energy, the crowd was really moving, lots of stage diving, and lots of idiots spinning. They ended with "Chorus Of One", "Three on a match" and their last song, "Refusal."

Overall the set was fantastic, unfortunately only 2 songs from the EP, but one new song and the best from Change makes a great set, check this out, and check out New Mexican too, fantastic guys.

I was at this show as well and let me tell you, NMDS rock the ass of this shitty scene everytime they play. They have been at this game for a long time and will continue to be a force of punk rock fury for years to come. As far as them ranking number2 beneath the Spitvalves, come on. Can you even compare the two bands in the same sentence, let alone a ranking system. NMDS is a far better band with much more talent than some shitty Ska-Punk band. Just remebr, NMDS are the saving grace of this town, right behind Elephant Gun.

New Mexican Disaster Squad are fucking great and I think it's awesome to see a band from Orlando that isn't a shitty ska band do well. They weren't just doing this Orlando show, but a whole weeks worth of shows with Strike Anywhere and they are on a pretty big label now (A-F) and they also play really good songs and are an exciting band to watch. Both these guys and Strike Anywhere are a breath of fresh air from these tired metalcore and poppunk and mallrock bands that are so popular now. Rock on dudes!

I was at that show. Neither opening bands were anything special. Strike Anywhere put on an amazing show, once again. Two things the reviewer failed to bring up, though, was the constant stage diving and the incident at the end of the show.

Now I'm all about dancing, having fun, stage diving.. but when assholes jump in feet first, it's a bit fucking retarded, ya hear? There were kids jumping off that seemed to want to do nothing but injure people in the crowd. Bending my neck backwards still hurts from behind landed on one too many times.

And lastly, the incident at the end of the show. Some stupid fuck decided to steal one of the mics. I kid you not. What the hell is wrong with our scene when we steal from the bands we come to see? Seriously?

    Gah, I'm done ranting.

Hey I'm not the person who disagreed with you, but I think the Supervillains are fucking funny as hell, I have their old CD and it kind of sucks, but the humor redeems it.

Spitvalves on the other hand are fucking amazing. And NMDS is a good choice for #2, they sound better every time I see them.

Orlando isnt Gainesville, NMDS is #2 dude.

"The new mexican disaster squad is not the second favorite band of orlando."

First off mr. information, if they arent, who is, THEY ARE ON A-F RECORDS! I bet you LOVE the supervillians and how they say awesome shit like "this song is about crippy weed" FOR EVERY SONG! By the way, learn grammer, fucking idiot. Ill write whatever i fucking want to write.

    FortyMinutesWest (April 9, 2003)

The Young And The Useless sound like Stretch Armstrong

you are very retarded. The Young and the useless have no chugga chugga what-so-ever. They don't boast their "chugga chugga singer." It's more punk hardcore than anything.
The new mexican disaster squad is not the second favorite band of orlando.
    and um.
    you are a fucking idiot.
don't ever write a review again.
    seriously.

floor's new record is great. it will most likely be completely misunderstood by all you mall-urchins. but that's part of it's appeal.

tired from now on was the best no idea band ever. even better than radon.

    REALPUNX4LIFE (April 8, 2003)

I hate anyone and everyone who will see Floor. You motherfuckers are gonna get what's coming to you.

Oh man there were so many people stage diving during Strike Anywhere's set at this show. New Mexican Disaster Squad sounded as good as they ever have too. Pretty damn good show.

    Anonymous (April 8, 2003)

strike anywhere are great. but damn, enough with the reviews already. some other bands would be nice.

    Anonymous (April 8, 2003)

Um i hate to sink your battleship, but this is a completley different show than any of the previous Strike Anywhere reviews. New Mexican Disaster Squad are an amazing band. Ive never seen them, but I can imagine how good itd be. In other news, im seeing Floor in a couple weeks. Thank god for No Idea..

As much as I love Strike Anywhere, I must say I hate seeing the same shows reviewed over and over and over again. Yeah, I know the openers were different, but come on, this is getting silly.
