Scott: “What’s this? It sounds like Pennywise.”
Me: “No, it’s the new Pistol Grip you gave me yesterday.”
Scott: “Really, it sounds just like PW only more of a street influence.”
Me: “Ha, yeah now that you mentioned it, they do sound like PW after listening to some Stiff Little Fingers and Sham 69.”
Scott: “This sucks, I want to listen to the new Polyvinyl release, that label’s rocks my cock off into my sock.”
Me: “That is fuckin’ gross and PV sucks, at least this band doesn’t just whine about their prom date that dumped them for the big insensitive jock a week before prom. This band at least has some quasi political lyrics.”
Scott: “Yeah but, HEY! They got those new steak quesadillas (yeah I know) at Taco Bell. This cd is still pretty boring every song on here sounds exactly the same, no change in tempos, styles, vocal deliveries, or anything to make it stop sounding like one long song with a bunch of dramatic pauses.”
Me: “That’s not all true, The Rebels Are Dead is a skaish song and… well… ahhh… that’s about it. Goddamn, remember that Nothing Nice To Say comic where they were making fun of Rev. Horton Heat for always sounding the same, well I think that could apply to this band.”
Scott: “mmm. Taco Bell is so good, I’m glad I got the grande combo!”
Me: “Yeah and those steak things fuckin’ rule the school.”
Scott: “So what’s your final opinion of the album?”
Me: “Its very generic street punk that starts out really good, but after the first few songs I’m just growing bored, it has nothing to keep me interested. I really think this band is suffering from a bad case of Pennywisits, where they get stuck with one sound that works for them and then get stuck being unable to move beyond it. It also seemed to suffer production wise, the whole record just seemed like it was too slick. I thought some of the songs felt like they were trying to go faster and harder but were kept back.”
Scott: “Wow, that is a deep and profound statement, and I got fire sauce on my shirt.”
Me: “HA-HA!”

This album and the one before are great. Where the reviewer sees any touching points with pennywise is a huge fuckin mystery to me. Fuckin unbelievable great.
Pistol Grip will get very big if they continue to put out such cool stuff

    My Score:

Yeah, I was there too, and saw them last week with Bad Religion. Great fucking band, I'm surprised they haven't blown up yet.

This album wasn't as good as the first (which was incredicble), but it was an excellent effort and only disappointing at all if you go in there hoping for something better than the debut.

Good lyrics, catchy as hell, great lead guitars, and a really fun change-up at the end with the Rebels Are Dead's reggaeish flavor. I also really liked Sweet and Sour of a Knife, Murder of Crows, Broken Radio and Another Face to Hate.

This is not to cause controversy or anything, but have you ever seen Pistol Grip? Did you listen to the first album? If you did what did you think of it? I have played many shows with PG and have seen the crowds grow bigger and bigger and the kids sing more and more. I think you should give them a second chance. JMearsCSCS@aol.com

I'm sure you guys thought this review was real cute, but it just makes it extremely obviously that you reviewed an album you didn't even really listen to. Seriously, this isn't a fucking review...it's a joke and i don't think anyone is laughing at it. (Except maybe Scott)

it cant be him for 2 reasons:

    1) makes love for simple plan too blatanly obvious.

    2) no "trademark" asterisks surrounding his infamous moniker.

and i guess a thrid would be that the real wuss would never listen to this cd in the first place.

i'm not gone yet guys, i've just been away for a while from lack on internet access. I agree this pistol grip cd lacks alot of what makes polyviynl great, they could take some pointers from their bands or simple plan

    My Score:

Musically, PG couldn't be farther away from PW than they are from Celine Dion. They don't play any melodic hardcore. This is streetpunknroll at its mediocre best. If you like One Man Army, Swingin' Utters, Rancid, U.S. Bombs, The Class Assassins or The Forgotten, then check this out and stick a taco up yer ass.

"he also compared them to stiff little fingers and sham 69"

The Shams and SLF are great... Now how could a band that is inspired by them suck that bad? I don't get it... The DKMs album 'Do or Die' reminds me a lot of 'Hersham Boys', but I don't think thats an overly bad thing... And, also, how could Pennywise sound like those two old bands. The description is vague, and from the samples I've heard, sounds untrue. This band sounds like 79/80 British punk... Well, from the samples anyway...

Yeah, seriously.. Where'd the PW reference come from? I just listened to some samples and heard absolutely no hint of that. Sorry everyone is dwelling on that line in your review, but it was a pretty poor intro.

pistol grip doesnt even BEGIN to sound like pennywise, so for those of you who are curious about the band and havent heard them yet, strike that comment from your memory.

these guys are great live, too. i saw em this month with the utters and they played a few of these new songs with their old stuff, and it blended in perfectly. pistol grip is straight up punk-n-roll, and its fucking great.

sickboi said it best, and i have to agree. polyvinyl records belong to construction workers who secretly wear panties. fuck 'em.

bad bad review. next time, when you review a record, go in with an open mind and without any preconceived notions as to what the band supposedly sounds like-pennywise? don't think so. clean the earwax out of your head and listen to the record again.

    My Score:

agreed with the guy underneath me... i thought that you could have done a much better job reviewing it... pistol grip does not sound anything like pennywise!! damnit... there's a huge difference between the skate stuff that pennywise does and the stuff that pistol grip plays(just because it doesn't have starry guitars, doesn't mean it sucks)... i prefer to listen to this than most stuff that has come out recently...

sorry... but a very sucky review... my score is for pistol grip

    My Score:

Crap review. This doesn't does the band any honour, as they certainly do NOT sound like Pennywise. I think they hang towards old Rancid or the Utters more. The production was idd not very good, but this is an excellent cd overal.

I thought this album rocked. Oh wait....it's cool to hate PW right? Even if a band (like this one) doesn't sound ANYTHING like PW? You guys need to use your head when writing reviews. I'm disappointed in you Moldy. While not as good as their last album, I think this is one of the better releases this year....and the new PW will most likely rock too.
