Published on April 11th 2003

Dee Dee: "1, 2..."
Joey interrupts: "Wait! We're the Ramones, this one's called Rockaway Beach!"
Dee Dee: "1, 2, 3, 4!" and the Ramones blast into a blistering rendition of the almighty Rockaway Beach.

This is the way this live record starts and the Ramones don't slow down for a second on the rest of the record. 28 classic punkrock anthems (all from the first three Ramones masterpiece albums) are played in less than 54 minutes.

The quality is great, the intensity and energy amazing and it rocks extremely hard! Every song is faster and more agressive as the original. This is one of the few live records which really add something to the original recordings (along with Social Distortion's Live at the Roxy and AC/DC's If You Want Blood) and is not just a collection of greatest hits.

But still we get all the hits: "Blitzkrieg Bop", "Rockaway Beach", "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker", "Judy Is A Punk", "We're A Happy Family", "Cretin Hop", "Havanna Affair" and all the covers released on the first three albums. Ofcourse some songs aren't present "53rd & 3rd", "Ramona" and "Locket Love" are in my opinion songs that should've been on It's Alive but you can't have anything (btw. "I Don't Have Anything" should've been on this too".

Still this is THE ultimate live registration of a Ramones show in their prime (please mail me if you've got better bootlegs) and it totally blows "Loco Live" away.

    My Score:

The recently released "NYC 78" is better. No overdubs in a studio, no fake crowd noise like on "It's Alive", and it has a harder sound. The only complaint is that the bastards edited out 'Judy is a punk' probably just to make it "different" to It's Alive.

Like Phast Phreddie said back in '76 regarding the debut LP, "RAMONES" - "Anyone who hates this record is an asshole".

And all you assholes know who you are, so fucking beat it.

What the hell? I need an education? obviously you do, they werent the first band to play with distortion and play uptempo, retard. They were the first 'punk' band to make it big. God youre retarded.

    My Score:

the ramones first album was the first real punk album. there were tons of proto-punk bands out there that touched on what was to become punk, but that one record was the first to really nail it.

    NO ARGUMENT

The Ramones were an OK band but I would have to say The Clash was alot better and without the clash there wouldnt be the best band around. ~~RANCID~~!!!

"They didnt start punk as most you would like to belive"

Then who the hell did? The New York Dolls and the Stooges were proto-punk. The Velvet Underground wasn't really punk... Who did? You obviously don't go to many shows...

    My Score:

501, you really need an education... First band to play uptempo and use distortion? The Ramones. Were they musicians? No. Could they play a tight set, with no pauses between songs? Yes. Are their songs excellent to this day? Of course. Ask any member of a punk band if they think the Ramones "suck a good amount of balls" and I don't think their response would be "yeah, I totally hate the people that created the genr of music I play!" God your taste in music is disgusting...

    My Score:

Everyone on this webpage quotes ' Blood Brothers are over-rated, FATA sucks... blah blah blah RAMONES ROCK ' im not a fan of either band, but the ramones are... how can you say the ramones are classic? They didnt start punk as most you would like to belive, they sucked balls fairly well, and my god wheres the talent you all speak of??? This band was horrible. The very first Pop Punk band if you want to say they were a first at something. Please, stop it with this band.

If they're the best ever is ofcourse something everyone should decide for themselves.

    They're the best though...
Everyone who doesn't see that should be shot in the neck with a supersoaker...

Great album...I dunno if you could call any of the Ramone's songs hits, since they never had a top 40 song in the US...Why the fuck does everyone hate loco live? That album is fuckin awesome. True Joey's voice may not be the same but it shows the alcohol grated chords of one of the greatest singers ever...Oh and why was that one dude pissed of about mentioning ACDC in a Ramones review?

of the 5 live ramones albums i have, this is the best.

    Loco Live

Well, you definitely got that right - this record is much better than Loco Live. Oddly enough, it was released in England in '79, but not in America cos the record company wanted a studio album instead...corporate bastards.
