Epitaph Records -- Millencolin

Stroll up to Irving Plaza for the avoid one thing, Roger Miret and the Disasters, The Transplants, and Lagwagon show. Wait on line, doors open at 8, and let the rock begin.

First up was Avoid One Thing, and i gotta say, compared to the last time i saw them they were much better this night. They played about 8 songs, and introduced two new ones. One of which had a really cool ska/reggae vibe to it that picked up in certain parts. So as an opener goes i would say Avoid One Thing was very good.

Next up NYC's very own Roger Miret and the Disasters. They played a short set, but like the other times i have seen them they didn't dissapoint one bit, even the security seemed to getting into the music. Best songs of the night were, give em the boot, career oppurtunities, and New York belongs to me. And New york almost did belong to them that night, but they were soon to be overshadowed by the band that almost everybody wanted to see, or were at least curious to see.

It was about a 20-25 minute wait for The Transplants, and the wait was well worth it. First to hit the stage was Travis Barker and Matt Freeman. They then Proceeded to jam for about 20 seconds or so leading up to Craig from The Forgotten, Rob Aston, and Tim Armstrong rushing the stage to launch into one seventeen. For about the next 40 minutes or so they never really let up. They sounded a bit sloppy at times but only because jumping around and going into the crowd quite a bit. Little talking was done in between songs, Rob said thanks a bunch of times, and i think the only thing Tim said was thanks, and he also threw a shout out to Billie Joe of Green Day, who was in attedance. HIghlights of their set for me were D.J D.J., White Riot, California Bablyon, and suprisingly show closer Tall Cans In The Air.They Also threw in a Skarhead cover, which got the place going even more.

Unfortunately i did not stay for Lagwagon, i respect them, but i'm just not a fan, although someone told me they played a really good set. Going into and Leaving Irving Plaza was a bit surreal, it was like a who's who of punk hanging outside. Spotted were: Billie Joe, Todd and Toby from H2O, members of the Ny relx, Tim Armstrong, Rob, Travis, Craig, All the disasters, and the Pete. So all in all this show was at least worth a score of 8.

Transplants are THE WORST band out right now. Jesus christ I would rather listen to kroq than this shit. Fuck this. Lame white boy rapping done by a stroke victim. If you told me that Tim Armstrong had a stroke and the entire left side of his face was paralyzed I would not be surprised. Why would I listen to fat white boys rapping about kicking my ass, when I can listen to mediocre fat black guys rapping about kicking my ass? If you like this band you should totally Kurt yourself. twat

    My Score:

there's already a band with a song called white riot, they're called the clash, you may have heard about them.

tim armstrong needs to stop stepping on the dick of the clash, it's kinda lame.

"I really liek the transplants so that would have been cool too bad some people are too punk to get it."

I get it... A balding guy in a stoner cap (Tim) a pop punker on drums and an ultra annoying white rapper... What's not to get? The lyrics aren't deep, the music is nothing I could listen to over and over again, so in summary: I think its fair for me to say that I think they suck without being called "too punk to get them".

It's one thing to gripe about this review because it's lacking in detail (which it is) but to give the guy shit because he didn't stay for a band he doesn't like is retarded. If you're willing to shell out the cash for a ticket just to see one band, then by all means do it. This review was posted so that fans of the bands he did see could get a run down on how they played. Notice how the show title in the box on the left there doesn't say Lagwagon? It's not like he tricked you into thinking you'd see a Lagwagon review and then dicked you over. I've walked out on bands I'm not a fan of before. Want to hear something that will REALLY piss you off? I went to a Less Than Jake/Bad Religion show, and walked out after LTJ! I don't particularly care for Bad Religion! Oh that's right, I went there.

why do you say unfortunately you didnt stay for lagwagon, that makes no sense since you say your not a fan, it would be unfortunate if you were late and missed a band you wanted to see or if the band canceled, or you paid to see the transplants, not that you voluntarily skipped out.

I don't know about the whole Lagwagon thing.. I saw them years ago in Montreal and was more disapointed than I've ever been for a live performance. Does anyone know the name of the ska/reggae tune by Avoid One Thing?

uh the only band i can agree on is rise against cuz theyre the only ones i've seen from the list. but definitely - first time i saw them i was ready to hate them because they were hardcore, i was definitely surprised. very few bands i expect to hate seeing i end up buying their cd some time or another and going to see them again

Just an observation. If you think you an label some one "mall punk" from a review: you dont understand what punk is. If you think you can label someone "mall punk" when you see what they wear you don't understand what punk is. If you think even for one damned second you can label someone "mall punk" for what they enjoy listening to then you don't know one god damned thing about punk.

who cares, he said he didnt like them, would you rather he say yeah, i stayed for the hour or so and they were terrible. i mean really he should have stayed and watched a band he doesnt like just for you. i mean i think at some anyone who goes to a good amount of shows watches from the back or leaves, it happens get over it, i mean lets face it lagwagon falls into the category of band you either love or hate, kinda like the transplants too i guess. different strokes for different folks

Reading about Lagwagon would have been great fun as far as reviews go, but he left out this band. So what? For the reviewer, the show was the Transplants, Roger Miret, and Avoid One Thing. He didn't only review part of the show. He reviewed the show he went to. Three bands is plenty enough, especially when you go home seeing the band you came to see. Let it go, it was a review that told a story of a show.

Lagawgon is a lame live band with unfunny antics. Saw them 'headlining' a tour with the Vandals (what a crime) and I wished I had walked out after seeing the vandals. The 1 is for lagwagon.

I bought "Kings At Crime" from Skarhead about a month ago, and then sold it back a week later. it was genuinly terrible.
