Don’t Look Down’s new EP, “Five,” is a power-pop punk filled fifteen minutes of fun. That’s right, I said it, fun. There’s actually not that much to bash with this band. These songs are well produced, they’re quick, they’re catchy, and they’re just good. The band’s toured with bands such as Mest, New Found Glory, Sugarcult, The Starting Line, Homegrown, Riddlin Kids, and Simple Plan. If you enjoy those bands, odds are you’re going to like this Jersey quartet too. They’ve been around since 1998 and you can hear a bit of an influence from where they started as a band (doing NOFX and MxPx covers).

There’s nothing really bad to say about this album. The vocals draw similarities to the singers from New Found Glory and Midtown. The lyrics are nothing too noticeable, but they’re not terribly cliché either. “Undone” has a great thudding bassline to it and it leans more to the punk side for this band. The first four tracks flow really well together. The album ends with an acoustic song entitled “Can You Hear Me?” which is really well written little emo love song. Not a bad effort at all from this band, pick it up for some fun summertime listening.

this is an awesome ep, though it could have done without the last song. anway, this band is far more pleasing to listen to then most of the bands listed above in megan's review.

Are you retarded? This doesn't sound anything like Thrice. This album is solid good music from beginning to end. Stop comparing it to other albums/bands...that is such bullshit, if only because most of you who are ripping on their music have nothing better to do than be pissed off about what bands are "ruining" the punk scene or what bands are "ripping off" other bands. Don't base your opinions on the labels that might be attached to certain bands...base them on the quality of the music. And in this case, it is damn good music straight through. Now, if you don't like it because you don't like how they sound (hard to believe if you're on this website), that's fine.

P.S.- My guess is that most of you who are ripping on DLD stop listening to a band when they get big because "your band" "sold out".

if you want accurate assessment on Don't Look Down, ignore all the bullshit comments on here about all the contemporary bands, especially mentioning Thrice - that's just flat out wrong. I say - go back about 9 years and visit the music on LAGWAGON's "Trashed."

Another band that uses a star in their logo.I'll give them half a star for their star.

i don't really enjoy their music, i saw them way back at the pontiac last summer, but they're nice guys.

Wow, this surprises me. I'm not much of a fan of poppy punk most of the time, and I didn't like their full length that much, but this EP kicks all forms of ass! Thrice? No. I love Thrice and I love this EP but they sound nothing alike. Why is it that nobody in the punk scene has ever heard a double guitar riff from anyone else besides Thrice? Lagwagon's album is covered in them. Anyway, I disagree about the lyrics too. These songs are really well written.

From someone who hates 99% of anything even remotely related to NFG's sound, liking this record is a high compliment. Do yourself a favor and give it a listen before you take their word for it.

Thanks but... Wait, how does the line end? Oh right, cliche. Kind of like Don't Look Down?

    sickboi (June 6, 2003)

Believe me, they try the whole metal guitar riffs fused with vocal harmony thing, but they sound like a bunch of pansies. An emo-core band with "edge". I'll pass.

sickboi, this description doesn't make this band sound like an OUNCE of thrice. who's the liar here?
