In case you already don't know, Rise Against is made up of two ex- members of 88 Fingers Louie, Dan and Joe. Rise Against has only been round a short while and they have already signed to Fat Wreck Chords which is very impressive. I'm from around Chicago and have been a fan of the scene for years. I grew up on all Chicago bands, especially 88 Fingers Louie. When I heard of this new band, I was overjoyed because I've been waiting for a year or two for a band out of Chicago to be actually good. Rise Against is one of the most promising hardcore bands to form in a while and I'm not talking about Chicago only, I'm talking about the whole country. "The Unraveling" is Rise Against debut album and it rocks hard from start to finish. Lets just say that this is so good that there isn't one track on here you should skip over. The best tracks are clearly on the first half of the c.d. Stand outs worth mentioning are "Six Ways Till Sunday", "401 Kill", "Alive And Well", and "My Life, Your Heart". Sure, allot of this sounds like 88 Fingers Louie, but is that even bad? No way. I've been waiting for a band like this to come along in a long, long time and they're finally here-this is the band thats actually given me hope for the current lackluster Chicago scene. Definitely a contender for debut of the year. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
holy shit these guys are good. i hope they return to their roots in this sound next album. HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! Tthese guys kick ass. I thought punk was dead, but these guys prove that it is alive and well. If the song "Unraveling" does not give you goose bumps then you deserve to die. Fuckin awesome i think RA is the best thing that happend to punk music. They are not this pussy as punk like GC. Cant wait to see them again live they are the best. to dumbarse 5 posts below. lawrence amrs, slapstick and broadways are all basically the same band. The new rise against album owns my soul Easily in my top 5 albums of all time, and I own over 350 punk cds..... amazing cd, bad review hey dumbass matt is from chicago. he moved to california a couple of years ago. all the members are from chicago lackluster scene? The Lawrence Arms, The Ghost, The Honor System, Rise Against, not to mention bands that broke up like 88 Fingers Louie, Slapstick, and the broadways. fuck, i think The Alkaline Trio is even considered a Chicago band even though the Matt is from California... I think that Fat still have some flavor, and I don't want to see their label end up like Epitaph's. I don't think that Fat has any useless bands yet, and I also think it's cool that they're releasing an MxPx EP in the near future. I am personally not an MxPx fan, but I think it's cool that they're good friends with Fat Mike. wait, if RA got on Fat because of members of 88, then why was 88 on hopeless. I think they got on fat due to their own merits. exactly, you havent heard it so shut the fuck up. What makes it impressive that Rise Against are already on FAT? They're on FAT because they've got former members of 88FL. This isn't to say they're a bad band and shouldn't be on FAT (in fact I haven't even heard the CD), they just had a head start on other bands. Kinda like Zero Down. They're on FAT because they've got an ex-Strung Out member, otherwise they're a useless and redundant addition to an excellent roster. I'd hate to see FAT turn out like Epitaph, having a ton of bands with no identity. |
